i love morrowind, but skyrim really made me Angry.
Skyrim is a great game by itself, but to see it came from the elderscrolls series and the destruction of sooooo many thing and the ignorance of elderscrolls lore, and just the refusal to do certain things in it just really really made me Very Angry about it. i only played it through once, years ago when it came out.
ill play morrowind forever over and over and over, but skyrim? i have no desire to play it again.

and i heard they are almost done with Skywind, again, same thing, its just not morrowind, infact i see it as an Insult to the elderscrolls series ingeneral.

I enjoyed Skyrim but ESO's more my game. Storylines are far more coherent here, and the questing has Skyrim beat by a mile. If it weren't for seeing other players, I could almost imagine this game as the RPG I wanted Skyrim to be.

I like freedom, but Skyrim was a little too free. I like a nice, linear story far more. By the time I finished Skyrim's main story, I'd already forgotten how it began :D

I'm actually not much into the MMO genre. I prefer an open world SPMR game like Skyrim. I did the MQ a couple of times, then I started adding in quest mods. In the last couple of years, I've kept Legacy of the Dragonborn in my load order permanently. Love it! Probably won't do Odyssey unless something changes and ice decides to make it available for SLE - I really dislike SSE (and CC of course).

I feel like I've kind of gotten stuck with MMOs to a certain extent. What I love are nice, linear single-player RPGs without open worlds tacked on. The kind of games with a good 30-60 hour storyline with crafted and story-relevant side quests. Unfortunately, those are a rare breed these days. I'd die for another KOTOR or Dragon Age: Origins or Mass Effect, or, heck a Kingdoms of Amalur. A lot of story-oriented MMOs have a light enough storyline that I can remember most of it despite the massive worlds. They're not the best substitute for my kind of RPG, but they're almost close enough :D

I am on the same page as you. I’m actually only playing this game because Bethesda refuses to make another single player TES game, and poor BioWare has basically self destructed. 😢 Though there may yet be another Dragon Age game before the studio totally dies. Maybe.

I adore high fantasy RPGs, and those have become essentially extinct. Sad times for picky gamers. I started another play through of Jade Empire recently, but I’ve replayed all the old games so much. I wish there was something fresh in the fantasy RPG genre, but alas. I’ve also played the Mass Effect series to death, even Andromeda. (Which I actually liked a lot of it, despite the derpy animation.)

I hate post apocalyptic and dystopian world settings, otherwise I would play Fallout games more, and I might be more excited for Cyberpunk next year.

    So....ESO it is! 😆

    Started with Morrowind, then Oblivion.

Next came what in my opinion is the best game, Skyrim. And there were some fantastic mods for it.

They're working on the next one, I read somewhere. But, probably 3-4 more years before finalized.

Oblivion. When I first started playing it, I had never played anything like it. You could go literally anywhere and the music was amazing. The first game I felt truly immersed in.

Oblivion was great, but everyone in the game had weird heads.

LOL, I totally get you. I wish I could have made it through Jade Empire, but I suck too much :D Bioware kills me :( I actually really enjoyed Andromeda once I got a few mods installed to get rid of the big annoyances (environmental hazards, Road Rage, Peebee's stupid tattoo) and figured out how to create a nice, satisfying 40ish hour playthrough. If they'd had more time, better management, and hadn't put a bunch of stupid grind in the "open world," it could have been brilliant. I'm still heartbroken that they trashed the Quarian ark DLC :'(

I think I"m going to sit out DA4. I hated Inquisition with the passion of a billion burning suns. There were brilliant pieces here and there, some interesting character interactions, but the open world and the sheer number of quests you had to grind out for "power" and to level was beyond irritating.

I'm usually ok with apocalyptic/dystopian worlds, but the whole open world thing has gotten really old and exhausting. Plus, what's up with the newest RPGs being made in first person? I'd have been all over Obsidian's new game or Cyberpunk but for my motion sickness.

    At least there's ESO :D

    Bought skyrim

Never got past character creation because iMHO there was not a decent looking character to be made. Just can't play a game where I can't stand looking at the character.

You must have had a real hard time with ESO then

Daggerfall was my big game. I loved Morrowind too. But Daggerfall was the last time that game fit into a era of rpgs that is just plain gone now. When rpg were modeled after table tops and hosted far more neat and fun ways to play beyond kill everything and look good doing it. Not to mention I usually like the art style of that era a lot more too. @Hellmasker had a great picture that gives a fantastic example of that.

Yes loved Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. I come back to all 3 now and again depending on my mood.

I play Morrowind when I'm in the mood for a more serious RPG play style.

Oblivion when I am in a mood for pure fun and silly antics, just because of how silly the voice acting is in that game and how entertaining the quests are.

And as for Skyrim, I often play that because of how amazing the mods are. Currently have a huge play through for a mod called the "Legacy of the dragonborn" basically allows you to own a museum in Solitude which you need to collect relics and items to display.

I was late coming into the TES fold. Mostly because from 1996, I only had eyes for Diablo and Diablo II: LoD for many years.

I'm another one who started gaming back in the era of AD&D 1st. Edition back in the '70s, so Fantasy RPG is totally my thing, and I'd always heard great things about the TES games (mostly Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim), I just never tried any of them until relatively recently.

I jumped into ESO almost a year ago when I got bored with SWTOR's storyline at that time, and then tried a little unmodded Skyrim, but the controls for ESO seemed a little smoother (probably because I started playing that first, and I'm not a fan of Steam) so I've kinda stuck with that over Skyrim, but I would like to experiment with modded Skyrim.
And, now that I have a small clue about TES lore, I'd like to try Morrowind and Oblivion, just to see what they are [were] like.

It's the lore and the world building which drew me in. My first TES game was Morrwowind, which I picked up because everyone was raving about how great it was.

Although a lot of what they were talking about was standard RPG mechanics which I'd already seen in dozens of games - yes you can customise your appearance and choose which skills and weapons you use and you get choices in dialogue and where to go and lots of side stories....I can only assume it attracted a lot of people who were new to RPGs and had no idea what they were. I'm also largely indifferent to graphics - as long as I can see what I'm doing (or the game is designed so you don't need to - e.g. text based games) I don't much care how it looks. So at first I wasn't expecting much more than another RPG to play through, but RPGs were (and are) my favourite genre so I thought I'd give it a go.

And like I said it was the world building which drew me in. The khajiit and argonians were the first thing to catch my attention - humans and elves are in practically every fantasy setting but I'd only seen one other game franchise with cat and lizard people. And the religion was the bit which really got me to pay attention - people kept asking if my character followed the Tribunes or the Divines or the Aedra or the Temple or the good and bad Daedra...and for a long time I had no idea what any of it meant or how it all fit together. I was used to game worlds with 1 clearly defined pantheon - maybe with dozens of gods but still one where everyone agreed on who they are and what they do, so I thought this was all different names for the same thing but eventually I got to the bottom of it. (Understanding that 'good Daedra' was a separate thing to Aedra, but those are the same as the Divines probably took the longest.)

That involved reading a lot of the books I found, and along the way I learned a lot about the rest of the world too and got interested in that. I probably spent as much time reading about Tamriel as actually playing and ended up really enjoying the game but somewhat frustrated that my character was stuck on this little island unable to explore the rest of this world I'd heard about.

So of course I played Oblivion and Skyrim when they came out, and at some point discovered that I had briefly played Daggerfall at a friends house, I just didn't know what it was called. And I was interested in ESO as soon as it was announced, because it seemed like the most likely game to finally cover all of Tamriel and maybe some of the places beyond (I'm hoping it goes on long enough that we get expansions/DLC set in Akavir).

Skyrim's the worst TES game except for graphics, game-play is hugely dumbed down in comparison with the best of the series: Morrowind.

If we're making this a Daggerfall thread, too, then I'd like to point out that a TES game doesn't start to really live until you mod it.

Yes, I made a mod to add playable Orcs. I played that character in Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. She's now one of my ESO characters, too.
