Max ressources vs max dmg

Can somebody explain why Max ressources scales (magicka and stamina) scales as spell and weapon dmg ?
Because if i correctly understand, 10.5 Magicka equals to 1 spell dmg (10.5 stamina equals to 1 weapon dmg).
So why not to up Max ressources in this case as you get better pool to fire skills while keeping almost the same spell or weapon dmg?
Why not choose 2 sets with max ressources to get like 40k ressources vs 2 set with max spell or weapon dmg and get 30k ressources ?
in both cases spell and weapon dmg are the same, but in the first case we have more ressources.

Is this another idiotic decision made by Zenimax staff ?

this is long discussed, even i made a few topics about it. Nobody ever gives a satisfying answer.

INB4 just go with what your class buffs and what you have access to better

I really don't understand this choice.
Why making a stat correlated to another one under different name?
In this case just remove spell dmg and weapon dmg or just make ressource not scales to dmg.
Another dumb decision made by Zenimax.

First you are not understanding correctly how max resource and weapon/spell damage correlate. Having 10.5 more stamina does not add 1 weapon damage to your stats. It is only reflected in the scaling of your skills. Having 10.5 more stamina provides equivalent increase in skill damage as having 1 more weapon damage.

Your actual question can be answered fairly simply. Modifiers. Max resources do not have a lot of percentage modifiers available. Most of them are tied to slotting less than optimal active skills and do not exceed 5-10% increase. On the other hand weapon and spell damage can be buffed by 20% with one of the most accessible buffs in the game. And this is not counting all the other passives that increase them.

You can get a lot more "bang for your buck" by increasing damage. Especially in case of stamina where medium armor comes with a 15% increase to weapon damage. On the other hand magicka has more max magicka modifiers available and you will usually see higher max magicka and lower spell damage on magicka builds.

I played with a max resource build at close to 50k stamina. Once you're over 40k, your damage seems to scale better with max resources compared to weapon/spell damage, but I did find that my healing output was slightly better with higher weapon damage.
Overall I felt squishier with all that stam, but hit like a truck. However to get to that point you do forgo health and your secondary resource, because you're too focused into building up that max pool, otherwise it's not worth it.
There's definitely more thought into it besides "just stack X"

    depends on class
DK can stack weapon damage best in game so they go for damage sets

To add to the above: Also, when having a binary option to either increase your damage stat or max resource stat, the damage stat is "higher" in terms of increasing the tooltip of abilities.

For example, when you have a ring with a damage enchant, you can either make it infused (which adds over 100 damage to the enchant) or arcane (which adds ~960 stat IIRC).

According to the 10.5:1 formula, you will get more juice for your abilities out of the infused trait than out of the arcane trait(talking about damage/healing here, not shield strength obv.).
