Nerfs galore = BURNOUT

So since the game is probably about to suffer horribly with these changes I think maybe my burnout is coming st a good time.
So my question is this: I’m about to reply my PC in and start playing Skyrim and Fallout again. The GPU is a GTX 1060 6gb. The game will freeze when there’s too many NPCs on screen so I know the GPU is bottlenecking.
What graphics card should I upgrade to?
16gb ram
I7 quad core 4400k

I bought 1080ti couple years ago specifically for SSE. Worked very good with almost top notch settings of mods (ton of grass, 4k shadows etc), defaults to ultra in all new games I played and runs without drops... basically ESO is only game which puts this not so new card on it's knees.

Your gpu with 6gb isnt the bottleneck...both Fallout and Skyrim are known for poor optemization. Even worse: Skyrim and Fallout are basicly mods of the same outdated engine. So try some mods (there is a good one for fallout that removes crap assets that you wont miss but improve your fps by 100%).

The main mods I run are NOT ones that make the game look better. It’s the ones that make the game HARD. Like Sands if Time, Genesis, OBIS, Deadly Dragons, that sort of thing.
Ex: when I’m outside, I have about 100 bandits and soldiers in an all out war. FPS drops to around 30. Then when a dragon comes and lands on the ground...freeze.
But if I’m inside a dungeon, this doesn’t happen.
I was thinking about buying the NVIDIA 2080 or the ti. Depends if I find a wedding to photograph

There is nothing wrong with the 1060 6gb, and that is not the bottle neck (unless it is not working correctly or overheating). The cpu should be ok too, just OC to give it some more oomph.

Like others have said it could be poor optimization, but I hesitate to agree as my friend is running skyrim with an insane amount of graphical mods using a ryzen 1600x and a 1060, and he is pulling 60fps@1080p. Make sure your system is up to date and virus free etc... and maybe check out some optimisation guides if none of that works.

Also i see no sense in pairing your 17 4400k (a chip that is lagging massively behind more modern ones) with anything beyond a 1060 to be honest. Save your money and save up for a complete rehaul.

Like I said, my mods aren’t graphical. The main graphics mod I run is an ENB. And ultra settings. The mods I use are the ones that add a TON of enemies into the game. And the ones that make me fight like 10 dragons at once and spawn huge battles in dungeons and forts

So what causes the game to freeze outside, but never inside?
