The ability to "walk slower" while decorating.

While decorating I find myself wanting the ability to walk even slower to get things just right. I already use the current "RP walking?" to decorate, however, the ability to walk slower then this could be very useful, so you don't have to spend 30 min getting something justtttt right jittering your character left and right till the item is somewhat close to where you want it. While it's not a big deal it would be nice to have a different toggleable slower walking speed just for decorating.

Honestly I wish they would just make decoration mode break you away from your character so we have full XYZ roaming.

I hate having to build scaffolding to place lights etc. in the perfect place.

It's not the perfect solution, but I find I move a lot slower, and have a better perspective if I zoom in while crouching/sneaking.

The sneaking by default makes you slow. And the zoom gives you a really up close view, making setting things on tables for example more accurate.

That would be nice. In the absence of that functionality I recommend the Magic Carpet addon to PC players. You can easily glide to the upper or outer edges of your properties to place furnishings.

I tried EHT for a bit, I found I didn’t need the complexity of it, didn’t care for the frequent updates or the file size (multiple updates per week aren’t uncommon). And I just want to be able to visit someone’s house without having to have an addon to “see it properly”. I know that lots of people really love EHT and I’m glad it exists for them. But it’s not for me.

100% agree glad I'm not the only one who did not care for EHT.
I have installed it and tried using it but in the end, found it more of a hassle and unnecessarily complex. Don't get me wrong I know people love it and use it but it is not for me either, and the fact that some decorating guilds I've been in require you to use it is a bit much.

Dude, I know! I'll spend hours decorating, albeit mostly just augmenting the existing structures of my House and when my friends come over, They're like "You need more furniture." :|

There is an Add-On called Essential Housing tools/Editor that allows you to do exactly what you're looking for but I'm not entirely sure it's safe to use. It caused me lag and may have given me a virus. IDK if that is possible from and add-on but that could be from any number of the questionable sites I visit so don't take that as an absolute. LOL

The decorating system needs a serious update so we don't have to gamble with Add-Ons

It didn't give you any virus, and the man who writes it is easily one of the competent and best people on the planet and there's a ton of people who can confirm :). @R_K

It's not for everyone, but you can do amazing things with it.

Just hotkey the command that switches you from running to walking.

If you have a gamepad you could try using it, since you can walk reaaaly slow with it.

This. Gamepad is quite the boon for housing. Don't even need to use it all the time. You can bind a key on your keyboard to toggle gamepad mode, and thus, you could have an Xbox Controller plugged in purely for housing.

to move slow - just hold "block" while walking, it will make you move really slow.
unless you have points in shield that unlock the normal movement speed while blocking.

Is that applicable to furniture UI?

Sadly, you cannot block while a furniture item is bound as your reticle target in Housing Editor mode, so that's not really an option.

One of the main problems that I set out to solve when I wrote Essential Housing Tools was the issue of placement and precision.

You really will not find much that can make precision editing easier - or feasible, really.

While many people say that EHT is too difficult, my guess is that they either never tried it or they installed it but never realized that you need at least one keybind set up -- it's a must:
Controls | Housing Editor | Essential Housing Tools | Select/Deselect

Once you have that keybind set up, you can easily target items, select them as a group, and move/rotate them with big, pointy arrow buttons.

The slider beneath the arrow buttons also allows you to choose to move/rotate in increments ranging from 10 meters / 90 degrees to as little as 1 centimeter / 0.1 degrees.

It's super easy and intuitive [if you actually try it]... but, if you find that you want tutorials as well, here ya go:

PS: The Community app can trigger @Radiance scanner software sometimes because I didn't spend the several hundred dollars required to get a meaningless certificate for the program. Also, the Community app is 100% optional (but it's also awesome)

I'm always playing in gamepad mode on console lol. I just make sure to remove any personalities before decorating. The main gripe I have is getting something lined up perfectly and then my character decides to take a deep breath right as I place the furnishing :/
