How low is your Mbps up/down and you are still able to play ESO just fine

I've been working with my ISP to resolve the constant disconnects I've been getting, and I had a particularly frustrating call with a tech support person who decided she had a silver bullet to a months-long problem -- upselling me a 40 Mbps internet package. Because that's what she needed for her Netflix, so surely I needed this much.

Right now I'm 10 Mbps up/1 Mbps down, and when ESO isn't disconnecting on me, it plays just fine.

What's your Mbps up/down? Who's got the lowest that's still playable?

I was on 12/1.2 for years and didn't have issues, it was only the patches which sucked.

Moved to a better location now so running on 40mb and it's glorious.

I’ve played on whatever the basic is around where I live, which is like 20u/5d for forever. I’m pretty sure I either have 30 or 40 up with 10 down now and I don’t have anywhere close to the connection issues and lag everyone else seems to be experiencing lately.

Had no problems in the first couple of years after release on a 6 down/1 up connection (also while 2 other MMOs being played on same connection). Have had 40 down/10 up for a little over 2 years now, often have problems with ESO but problems with other MMOs and my connection in general are almost non existent.

A fast connection is great for quick downloads of other games to play when you get sick of ESO. Or even uninstalling and doing a fresh download/install of ESO....never fixed any problems but sometimes worth a try. Problems with ESO? 9 out of 10 times it won't be a problem with your connection.

    I've played ESO on:

    2 Mb/s down, 1 Mb/s up
    - This isn't recommended, even on an ethernet cable you encounter lots of lag and long loading screens.

    50 Mb/s down, 5 Mb/s up
    - Performs great, no flaws due to internet speed.

    100Mb/s down, 10Mb/s up
-Performs great, no flaws due to internet speed.

*I am always connected through ethernet cable. Wireless connections are the bane of any gamer's existence.

100 down/10 up. Or should I say "up to". With net neutrality gone in the u.s., isp throttling is no joke my friends. I pay for speeds that I hardly ever see anymore. Elsweyr download averaged around 40, and that was in the middle of of the night. :/

The game barely uses 100 kbs download and 10 kbs upload most of the time, in pve, I know because I keep track of the use of my internet. Having higher speed then that doesn't help anything but downloads. Hell I have played of off my phone's 3g before, not PvP but in pve, it was fine.

I work for an ISP and get a direct fiber line to my house (perks of the job). Just ran a speed test get 996 mbps down and 80 mbps up.

I live on the east coast and play on NA PC server. Average 180-220 ping and if its populated 300-400 ping.

Now playing other MMO's and online games I average 20-30 ms and if its really heavy load 100ms but that's even rare. ESO is the only game I have issues with so I know it's their servers and nothing you can do about it until they resolve their performance issues.

have 15 Mb down 1 Mb up (bits not bytes)

Considering the data stream is like 80-160Kb it only ever consumes around 10% of my bandwidth (outside of cyrodiil, not been in there for a while to check)

Whats more important is the quality of the connection, 0 packet loss and around 35ms RTT means I have a pretty smooth experience. If my net connection gets a bit wonky I do notice it pretty quickly but thats rare.

Of course if your household is doing other stuff, streaming a video someone else doing a big download then that can affect your experience.

Perhaps I should also mention I use QoS to control where bandwidth goes, so ESO is guaranteed to get what it needs :*

Packet loss matters more than speed. It doesn't matter if you have the fastest connection speed available if you have high % of packets dropped at one of the hops.

25down...5up...never ever had an issue with this game or any other game... After the last update, every other game still performs great, but ESO has crazy lag where enemies are invisible for damn near ten seconds, but they're still able to kill me... My powers all lag after input... I've completely stopped playing it for a while now

Oof, actually hadn't done one in a while and didn't think it was that high. Someone in-game did ask what it was last week so I did a test through the browser on my Xbox and that gave me a download of like 720mbps.

I used the Address for NA on there in a pathping and all I could gleam from the result is I have a 30ms latency, which I guess is decent? I don't know where I can do a speed test to a specific IP Address though.

You already have the info you need ArchMikem. If you used Traceroute (or MyTraceRoute/MTR) you can see if there is any packet loss happening between you and the ESO server. If you got a report saying 0% packet loss for every jump, then you are all good.

Speed is what is provided by your ISP. Think of "speed" is how fast your car can drive. Traceroute (and MyTraceRoute from the other link I provided) will tell you if your "fast" car is running into stoplights and construction detours (packet loss) along the way.

If your connection to the ESO server is 100% good, but still having issues, you could try the other steps listed at this link:

    https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/37284/kw/ping server

its a bit more complicated than that as some nodes don't respond to traceroutes or limit the number of the icmp packet type involved.

The last entry is the most important one, if this reports 0% packet loss then you are good to go regardless of what the other nodes report.

@Dusk_Coven really also depends on how the server is doing and what my ping is. However, I pvp mostly in no cp so I would measure it by the AD faction stack, sorry guys. There are some nights I get near it and I disconnect when I get close. I play on data because that is the best I can get where I am at.

    300/15 mbps here.

Doesn't matter though, it's the ESO servers that cause problems, not my bandwidth.

Also ESO is the only online game I play that has 100+ response time (around 115-120 average). Every other game I play that has an online component is 50-80 ms response. That includes LotRo, SWTOR, and GW2 among others. For normal play this isn't an issue, but when the going gets tough, starting out at twice the response rate is not an enviable position for ESO to be in.

100/100 however as others have noted this is not the full story.
My latency in Europe is circa 100 but around wayshrines goes upto 999+ with a frame rate drop to circa 10 or so
My latency in US is circa 200 but often hits 400 to 500 (same issue around wayshrines).

I guess it is a popular game

I played for 4 years with a 1/2mb up and down, just couldnt run trials or cyro without major problems. The biggest headache was having to switch the wifi off and use a cable, to stop anyone else using the internet :P. Now on 7 down 1 up and can finally hit the trials with discord. This has led to another pita. The missus wanted to join the fun, she played for 2 days then subbed, and now I am spending half my gold sorting her gear out, and half my time, looking at her screen to figure out why she keeps dying. Such is life.
