Since personalities add a significant new dimension to customization, why not do something like that for the way we carry our weapons. The idea is would be to offer a new type of cosmetic option to the crown store, which changes the way, certain weapon (sub)types are carried around when not drawn. That might work poorly with certain personalities, so the alternative might be just making it a personality. I'd prefer it being separate though.
Changing combat animations is obviously a no-go, due to screwing with recognition in PvP.
Here are few examples how that could look like for different weapons, beginning with the easier ones:
Daggers: Because of their size those can be carried about everywhere. So putting them either on the chest or the lower leg/boot might be a cool "roguish" option. The problem with the leg solution is, that it would require the character to bow down, which might impact the drawing animation on the other hand.
Swords: Scabbards for those would be nice. I see that being to much work however. So probably not. Another thing is putting them on the back. It is totally stupid IRL, but often done in pop culture. I guess many people would like it.
Maces and Axes: That one is obvious. Just like in Skyrim, the option to carry those around on the opposite hip, with the head up would be nice, especially with small lather band.
Bows: Here I'd go with a more historical option, the muchore beautiful hip quiver. Obviously this would demand a change in the attack animation, in violation of my point above. I don't think that there would be any confusion in this instance though.
Now we enter the more complicated part. All the options for 2 handed weapons and shields I can think of, conflict with a lot of animations.
Shields: There is not much besides the Skyrim variant, leaving the shield on the arm. Maybe an alternative back mounted version could be introduced. Just let it hang deeper and more horizontal.
Staves(all 4 of them): It would be so cool, if we could use these like hiking staves. Maybe it should be done with the left hand, to differentiate it from the drawn stance with the healing staff. The animation problem here is obvious. Maybe the character could perform more tasks one handed and lay the staff on the ground next to her/him when sitting or lying down? A lot of animations would have to be changed.
Greatswords, Battleaxes, and Mauls: Limited options, again. IRL those weren't carried around strapped to the body as far as I know. They were either carried with the users hands or loaded onto something for transportation. So maybe shouldering them with the left arm might be a variant. IMHO it would look badass, but cause the same kind of problems as the staff variant.
So what do you guys think about it?
To me the potential for clipping seems to be the biggest issue. Apart from that there would be the question of how to implement it. Would it have a slot for every type? Or would it not be combinable with the default?
