its not my antivirus. its a steam issue. how do i know its a steam issue? cause like a clockwork - the notice shows up at the top of the forums, where ZoS is investigating the steam login issues. its not MY troubles. you just seem to be lucky and/or happen to play during times where Steam doesn't decide to have issues.

but steam has issues. when there are steam sales, steam has crazy issues.

    Exactly!
I'm playing ESO for a year now and every time ZOS released a new patch or update, the steam users got locked out for a day (with the usual "we are aware that bla blabla" message), so I eventually decided to buy the game again and separate my accounts so I could get rid of steam.

Why do people still buy games on steam? Blows my mind.

There are entire games I didn't purchase or play because they were *only* on steam.

    I did that. I bought a hard-copy from Amazon.
But the computer wouldn't recognize the disc when I put it in the DVD drive.
I had to use the code and install through Steam to make it work.

Weird because it wasn't released as a Steam game. Regardless I dont think Skyrim is having issues with logging in. I believe that is only ESO that has had those problems

Games like Skyrim typically don't have an issue. Some use Steam as an authenticator. I rarely have issues with that sort of thing. I don't have issues with Civilization and it requires Steam. The problem is with games that are frequently updated such as an MMO. Never ever buy these type games via Steam and never link an existing game to Steam if at all possible!

Steam is a bloated pile of horse dung written by amateurs. Why would you install that bloatware.

Because a lot of games (some which I bought physical versions in stores) over the years have required it, or things have given me codes for it (Humble Bundle, etc), and because I then got a bunch of games on sale.

So, yeah. Lots of games on it, so I have it installed. /shrug

But no - I'd never link my ESO to it. That'd be silly.

I know it wasn't released as a Steam game, but sometime between the time I bought it and the time I actually got around to [trying to] install it (two or three years), it had apparently become a Steam game.

I was asking because I'm in the anti-Steam group.
But I wanted to try Skyrim, so...

I also love steam and most games I won't even bother buying till they come to steam. It is really strange you can't do this when with games from Frontier it is so easy.

I don't have anything against Steam, I use it occasionally for assorted single player games although I don't have any currently installed. I also use other game platforms like Origin and Galaxy for those single player games that either require or are more easily run/updated etc through them.

However, where my MMORPGs are concerned, I wouldn't dream of using Steam or any other gaming platform, it just doesn't make any sense to introduce a third party into the process as (for me at least) nothing is gained and there's always the potential for complications - we can see that a good many weeks with loss of service announcements for the two console platforms and from time to time with Steam. Keeping things clean and simple is the key to avoiding performance issues.

WOW!! So much hate for Steam! I don't understand why others have so many problems with Steam and a couple of us have no problems. I can update or patch the game and then immediately log into the game without issue. Like I said in an earlier post, ever since that login issue a year and a half ago, I haven't had any issues with Steam. I do, though, have a setting in my internet security that stops other programs from undating or running any non-essential stuff in the background while I am gaming. Is that the answer? I don't know.
