Camera spinning wildly around -- Game is UNPLAYABLE after this morning's update

Mac / NA

Since the update this morning I can't play the game at all. The camera is just spinning wildly around like a top. I thought it might be an add-on issue, but since all add-ons are now out-of-date, and I have "allow out-of-date add-ons" checked OFF, none are loaded are running.

This is the craziest thing I've ever seen in four+ years of playing the game.

Unlock to make changes and then uncheck and recheck the ESO exes. If they are not there simply add them. Close window and tab back into ESO. The spinning should stop.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, or mis-reading your instructions, but it's not working. At all.

When I have the camera spinning I simply uncheck and recheck the ESO boxes. Hit the lock button again and then everything returns to normal. I typically do not even have to restart ESO.

If they are not there you may need to hit the + and navigate to the directory that contains the ESO online app and then add it.

That what I'm doing .... but apparently only works if I leave the game running while I do it. If I quit out of the game first, it doesn't work -- and furthermore, once it works, if I quit out of the game and then re-launch it, the spinning starts all over again.

--> Am I going to have to do this EVERY TIME I LAUNCH THE GAME? Because THAT IS NOT A FIX. That is a game-breaking pain in the ass!

I typically only have to do this fix one time after a large patch. Not quite sure what additional steps you may need to take to get it to work consistently. For now I hope the game is at least playable until you can get a resolution from ZOS.

I have the same problem on the Mac. I have a movie, to extensively showcase the problem we have to combat, since the new game engine was introduced and showing also how to fix it.

    If ZOS wants it ...

@ProfesseurFreder are you playing ESO in fullscreen? I’m playing in windowed mode - experienced the same problem this evening on logging in the first time after updating. I followed @Nicalas instructions and it worked. But playing in fullscreen prevents you from swiping out of the game to open System Preferences, while playing in windowed mode lets you do that.

@Hauteecole_Rider16 Yes, I play fullscreen. I can hit command-m and get out to the system to do the thing in System Preferences -- but it only works for the session. I'm having to go through the motions of going to system prefs and check and uncheck those damn checkboxes every time I launch the game. That's no "fix!"

Agreed, I am experiencing the same issue even in windowed full screen mode. I’ve taken to leaving my system preferences open just to do this step every time I launch the game. Hopefully ZOS will fix this soon.

I was hoping that today's update would contain something to address this issue. But no.

In addition, I'm experiencing random camera "freezes" when coming out of a character or dialogue screen that make it impossible to turn around: can only move straight front to back or straight side to side until the camera randomly starts working again.

Other users report that this issue was fixed by ZOS last fall (and the game was working perfectly on my machine until the Elsewhere update hit) ... why can't they fixit now?

For my part, I've given up. I'm only logging in now to collect the daily reward. Wake me when it's over!

Once again, I was hoping that this morning's patch would solve the issue -- and once again, it hasn't. The camera is STILL spinning wildly every time I log in.

Problem is back and for the last two weekly updates restarting my computer simply fixes it but now it doesn't. Please I hope the devs fix this soon.

Game is almost unplayable for spinning camera. This one is getting motion sick and wishes the warm sands were not moving like a sea.

Since Elsweyr, my Mac is back to spinning, no matter what I do with the addons, or the privacy settings which makes this game totally unplayable with my Mac. I am an ESO subsriber and have been so for a long time. This is disappointing, And btw by now you know the more popular addons, such as grid view for inventory, as a matter of feedback why can you not write some of them into the game? Thank you, I wait for your solution to my problem of not being able to play on my mac.

Here is the link to ESO fix for the spinning camera. The problem is: we have to do this EVERY TIME we log into the game to play.

Come-on ESO! You can do better than this!

Still nothing to fix this issue after the latest update.

Having to do this every time we play is *NOT* a fix!!!!

Please address this issue publicly. Just an acknowledgment that you are aware of the problem and are working on a *REAL^ fix would make us feel better. The ZOS policy of not acknowledging any issue users may be having is the single most annoying thing about ESO.

I came back to the game with a brand-new computer after you locked me out last year by making the game unplayable with any version of the OS earlier than High Sierra. I came back and I immediately started giving you more of my money. And this is how you reward me? By making the game unplayable AGAIN?????

Just posting here to let anyone still experiencing this problem know that there is a _real_ workaround not mentioned above that actually eliminates the issue. It's not "fix" but it works perfectly until ZOS actually does fix the issue -- or until they break it worse with the next big update.

As Hauteecole_Rider16 reports, do not launch the game using the launcher. Launch the game directly from the "eso" application.

For some reason, I didn't even think you _could_ launch the game without the launcher. But you can! -- and not only is the spinning gone, but all the other annoying camera issues that were making the game unplayable are gone as well.

So, the issue absolutely 100 percent is with the launcher. It's a mystery to me how the launcher could affect the game so deeply, but hopefully ZOS will make use of this information. Use the launcher ONLY to update the game when a patch is released.
