There should be a dedicated forum category for general topics, so they don't overwhelm actual new player queries.NA Mega-server

I'm sure their will be eventually. I think the omission was intentional in order to discourage a bunch of general opinion posts. This way they can delete threads at will because they don't technically match the criteria of the forum.
However, it was naive on their part. The most active forum will always become a forum for general discussion.0
