A friend of mine's father played ESO who was in his mid 70s & he really enjoyed just exploring & acquiring wealth. He sold pretty much everything in guild stores & was up around 60 million gold when he stopped playing. One of the really great things of such MMOs with some depth in the sub-systems is it gives lots of relatively easy niche things for players to do.

TBH though he did not enjoy the fishing for much the same reason as I... there doesn't seem any real point to it except the minute chance of perfect roe & titles.

Loving this thread... making me feel so young! I’m 42 and sometimes feel a bit silly playing eso but reading this thread I feel right at home

You reminded me of a time period that I used to see these cocky young college graduates that would come into the work force thinking that they knew everything, and I used to tell them "I have horses that are older than you are." The horses were around 30 years old at the time, and they lived into their mid 30's.

I'm 56 next month. I started with board gaming back in 1976, and I have not stopped since.

I meet a lot of younger players in various MMO's that wonder why someone so old would still be playing games. They have in their mind that when you hit 20, you stop playing games and do grown-up stuff like their parents do. (ROFL)

I'm nearly 50... I had a Pong clone as a kid, which used a black and white TV as a monitor xD

But as for "You're too old for competitive stuff", you can put that where it fits
I have dedicated an awful lot of ESO time to getting better at VMA and have managed two leaderboard rewards thus far. And Emperor, back in 2017. I've done the Craglorn trials on vet, but I gave up doing vet trials because of a) the time difference btw where I live and the EU players I play with and b) b/c stupid Australian internet makes regular ESO lag far worse - so I get disconnected at Alik'r dolmens in prime EU time. Makes vet trials not worth trying to do. As for PVP...
So yeah. "Hey you kids... get OFF my lawn!!!"

46 here, And (digitally) gaming since my parents got a computer for typing and printing texts.
It was a second hand computer and the first owners had also had installed Lemmings, Police Quest and Paperboy, all in black and white
In the school yard some fortunate kids let us play on "Game & Watch" Nintendo portables.
(Played Pong too, albeit second hand )

Nice to see the higher levelled age players. Thought I was ancient when starting here.
Mostly favour Cyrodiil PvP in puggroups because I can slip in and out of it (out of game responsibilities) when I want to and I like the dynamic teamwork. Other then that I can enjoy most other things offered.
A garden to grow potion ingredients would be cool, would love the shine of blue cornflower in the morning.

Funny thing is how many people think this is the first computer game. It's the first one with graphics, but it's not the first game.

I played games that were simply words across the screen. "You come to a fork in the tunnel. Do you go North or West?"

I played dungeon style fantasy games that were loaded onto cassette tapes and you had to play the tape recorder through a modem connection to the computer. This one particular game took about an hour to load - and if it glitched, you had to start over. And tapes wore out so you had to actually Record your progress on another tape.

I've a 52 year old guy in my guild and some 40+ too.
They enjoy all the content like the rest of the guild, they even do normal and vet trial with us.
ESO is a pretty easy game and can be played at any pace.
This game have many thing to do, find what you love and go for it. Also don't say yourself "I can't do this I'm to old", your not.
Patience and learning is all you need and you'll do hard content too if you want w/o problem.

Hate to burst the bubble of the guy who thinks the average player is 25 or younger and male. I am 52 and female. I don't like PvP and stick to PvE. But there are quite a few officers of the guild I belong to, who are my age or a little older and also female. And they will kick your azz in Cyrodiil or run vCR with the best of you. Being a good gamer, or enjoying games in general, isn't reserved for twentysomething men.

Over 40 as well. Used to enjoy fishing in game since the music and scenery is beautiful to admire. But got used to those and now I just fish for the achievement. So I install the fishing add-on, turn off the music and fish while doing my Sudoku on the side.

One of the great things about being a really older gamer is being retired. I'm 70 and retired 8 years ago. When I was working, I would be playing some game and say to myself, "I need to stop. I have to work in the morning and need to get some sleep." An hour later I would say, "I really need to stop now and get some sleep before work!" Another hour later I would say, "Just stop now!!! You're only going to get 3 hours sleep before work!" But now, being retired, I can play all night and sleep whenever I want. I love it!!

As for fishing, I have days that I feel like just kicking butt and on those days I solo dungeons. Then I have days that I feel like more relaxed play so I go fishing. I enjoy fishing (I know, I'm weird). I have 7 Master Anglers. While I fish, I enjoy the scenery and watching other players. It would be nice if ZOS added a little more to fishing but until then, I will continue to enjoy it as it is.
