So i am new to the game and played a week now and i would like to play a DPS magplar. Is it viable playing without robes? (I don’t like how it looks). I want a good balanced build between DPS, mostly self healing and a little bit of buffing myself (Later if i need it i can always switch some skills so i can heal my teammate’s to). What skills should i build first and wich skills should i eventualy end up with? What weapons should i use? Maybe some tips & tricks for beginner DPS magplar? I will play PVE.
I hope you understand my english. I am looking forward to your answers.

    Hi @alessio5
Unfortunately I cannot give you much specific advice regarding playing a DPS magplar in terms of skills etc (magblade main myself) so hopefully others can give you some pointers on that. As a general rule if you are wanting to play magicka DPS (on any class) that means using destruction staffs as these are the only magicka based DPS weapon. You would also likely want to use restoration staff as well (at level 15 you can have two weapons and swap between them) to complement your in-class Templar healing skills. I would say if you are new just play around with all the skills and see how you find them and combine this with the suggestions you get from others.

However on the question as to whether it is viable without robes you don't actually need to worry about this due to a couple of reasons:

    1) Light armour chest pieces come in either robe or jerkin (more like a shirt) variants which are functionally identical. So if you don't like the appearance of robes you can use jerkins instead and still have all the benefits of light armour. The only limitation here is if you are relying on finding pieces its luck as to whether or not you get a robe or a jerkin. If you craft then you just need to select to craft a jerkin piece instead of a robe.

    2) Alternatively, the outfit system allows you to modify your appearance to look like anything you want. ie: you can equip a robe for its passive benefits but use the outfit system to make it look like you are wearing something totally different (including different armour weights). This can be done at outfit stations which are generally found nearby other crafting stations. This does have a small cost in gold though and you can only select crafting styles you have unlocked the motif for (you only start with your characters racial style and have to find/but the others). See https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Outfit_System for more details.

I can't really address the build question, but costumes or outfits would solve the "look" problem, and if you're wearing crafted gear you have the option of making a jerkin rather than a robe.
