Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

Being 100% honest, how would you describe these forums(only forums) to a newcomer?

In simple ToS friendly words, what would you have to say about these forums as a community and as an utility to new players?

Would you recommend using it or avoiding?

Please keep it civil, and most of all, honest. I'm curious.

A good source of up to date information and game advice. Taking the temperature of the game with forum trends is not advisable. Good for movement on porcelain throne.

Avoid. The first page is constantly full of complaints of bugs and nerfs. I would definitely be put off/intimidated to play just by looking at the titles

I'd say don't come feeling good about anything you've accomplished in game, or try sharing a build that isn't meta, because there are certain people who will take joy in shitting on you.

Also, don't you dare ever say you play well on a mag sorc, because the agenda here is to downplay why you see Cyrodiil and battlegrounds flooded with sorcs so they can pretend how weak the class is to angle for buffs. (I say this as a non-pet sorc main.)

Other than that, this can be a place for information and there's some good, honest, funny players here.
Take the entire thing with a huge grain of salt, and never take this place seriously, and you'll be fine.

    😁

Guilty here... I get my news while driving, so there isn't enough reading left for the throne... 😂

Use it. Also use critical thinking skills to sift through the posts, obviously. But overall the Forums are incredibly useful.
Guild recruitments, in-depth class information, up-to-date reports on issues and bugs, question feature for custom advice, etc. The forum is an incredibly useful resource and should be a super helpful all-in-one stop for most players.

It's, by far, one of the least flame filled and trolling forums for an online game I've ever seen. That's not saying it's free of those things, but no forum is.

It's a good source of information and sometimes you will have to tune out negativity. Thing about "negativity" is it's what gets attention... overwhelmingly. So it can be the easy mode of posting for some. Overall the moderation of it is pretty good, as is the moderators in general (even though they have hammered me many times, sometimes deservingly and sometimes not so much).

I highly recommend using it, you won't regret it.

It's better for experienced players who are already entrenched in the game, as they can enjoy the good parts without feeling like the playerbase is so toxic that they need to leave. New players, however, can easily get the wrong picture from these forums, as an awful lot of the worst parts of the playerbase seem to like to start threads here. Experienced players can separate the wheat from the chaff in the forums pretty easily, but new players aren't able to do that as much, so it's easier for them to get discouraged by the forums.

If they want to save time just go to this page instead https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/tracker -- is the dev tracker and you'd get the latest official updates on issues.

A lot of useless forum threads and responses from people who just want attention, to be honest. But that is the same as pretty much anywhere else on the internet nowadays. A worse place would be twitch.tv chat streams.

The subforums might have more intelligent discussions simply because trolls are typically lazy and just post in the general forum.

Hard to say. If never played an MMO before.... probably a big shock to system. If coming from WoW or RIFT, probably a baby's blanket cradle.

This forum is SO much less toxic than WoW or RIFT.... and it has so much more info to offer, and a good search function (and if that fails, google provides).

Best MMO game forum I've ever been on.

Good resource for information, but take it all with a grain of salt. Not everyone's experiences in game, good or bad, will match yours, so try things for yourself and find your own way. But still, if you want to know what's relevant to the in-game people around you, what's trending, or causing grief, or simply something you might not have noticed for yourself, then it's the place to be.

But yeah, grain of salt, a lot of passive aggressive sticky notes on this here tack-board.

I imagine coming to the forums while new is like digging deep into the steam review sections of a game after buying it. There's bound to be a lot of complaining and bashing, with positive reviews only sparsely peppered in.

In other words, find out for yourself if the game will really be enjoyable or not. Don't let negative people who had a bad time dictate your experience by coming here.

Better than reading the news :D

I'd also say, approach with caution and find humor in absurdity. These forums are a microcosm of human society, and human nature in all its brilliance and baseness can be found within various threads. A weird, twisted insight can sometimes be found into some of your deeper philosophical questions.

Also, you can keep updated on stuff that's happening in the ESOverse. That too.

People here are way to negative about everything....

I wouldn't say people are way to negative at all. It's just sadly we don't respect people's opinion. So when that happens, that is when the "negativity" comes in.

While the General Discussions is a hit or miss, because we as an "internet" we don't respect other opinions but if you go to the other sections of the forums where you ask for help, you will see we are an awesome bunch in helping each other with what ever questions you have.

Sadly, something about the General Forum causes people to become anonymous hiding a holes. Nobody is perfect, but sadly as a "community" it brings the worst of us out. Other sections of the forums, most of them are just great.

It's your typical game forum. You have people that are passionate about the game so arguments can start. You also have your 20 somethings that still act like 10 year old, so arguments can start.

depends on which section you are looking at. some areas are helpful while others are just for great entertainment.

it is reflective of the age group the game has.
