Elsweyr is it worth it?

halextripleplay
Hi Everyone , I i'm just wondering if getting Elsweyr is worth getting as an upgrade. I have once again started to play eso and it has been over 4 years since I last played. Any thoughts?

If you haven't played the other dlc yet I would grab those for a cheaper cost and see how you like/remember before dropping full price on Elsweyr. But that's just my thought for you since you haven't played in so long!

The choice is up to you young padawan!

How many dlc are they before reaching Elsweyr? I know it is only $39.99 to upgrade.
I do see your point though as well.

Well if you aren't counting the dungeon DLC's.

Orsinium (Wrothgar), Morrowind (Vvardenfell), Clockwork City, and Summerset!

So if you wanted to travel somewhere else first you have a plethora of choices!

Although I haven't got Elsweyr, I'd agree with @Jawshoeuh - have a go at those three first and by then the price of Elsweyr may have dropped.

Yeah I’d say it is... the zone is quite large and there’s loads to do. It’s super interesting if you like the Khajiit at all and the dragons are really fun :*

Well it seems to me I have missed a lot of things. lol. I will check into these and go from there. Now I just need to take a vacation and play for a week.

This starts a new story arc, so the choice is up to you. Due to the new arc, I suggest getting it. If you chose to get the old arc, you'll have to get ESO Plus or drop a ton of money getting through the Daedric Prince arc by buying them individually.
  • halextripleplay
Thanks everyone for the great information and tips. I will be going to the store to download and dlc and play. Hope to maybe see you all online sometime.

As a relatively newcomer to ESO I say Elsweyr is worth it. At least, I’m certainly enjoying it.

Thieves Guild (Hew’s Bane) and Dark Brotherhood (Gold Coast) are also Zone DLCs.

Elsweyr's exclusive features are the Necromancer class, the Sunspire trial, and a story zone. If you really really want to play the necromancer class (personally don't recommend it, especially so early while they're still ironing out its issues), then you'd probably want to buy Elsweyr. It's up to your personal preference.

However, $40 can get you a lot of other content if you're not absolutely intent on the new class. $40 gets you 5500 crowns for example, which you can use to unlock the Warden class (1500c) and the Summerset DLC (3500c) which includes a story zone, the Psijic Guild skill line, the Cloudrest trial, and the Jewelcrafting profession. Or perhaps the Guilds and Glory 4-DLC-bundle (5500c) which includes Imperial City (PvP zone, 2 dungeons). Orsninium (story zone, the Maelstrom Arena), Thieves Guild (story zone, Maw of Lorkhaj trial, Thieves Guild skill line), and Dark Brotherhood (story zone, Dark Brotherhood skill line).

Also bear in mind that you could use $40 to buy an ESO+ subscription ($15/month) for 2-and-a-half months, which would allow you to play every single DLC for the duration (not Elsweyr as it's a Chapter not a DLC). The sub would give you access to every skill line, every DLC dungeon, every Arena, every story zone (except Elsweyr) and every trial (except the Sunspire in Elsweyr).

So it's up to you really, but I would personally recommend that you sub for a month before you buy any DLCs, that will give you plenty of time to try things out and figure out what you're interested in.

I think it is because I've quite enjoyed it.

I can't think of any particularly good reason it wouldn't be worth it if you enjoy this game in general.
  • halextripleplay
So I think I will pay 39 for the update and then just do the yearly subscription for eso plus

Just sub to ESO plus for one month to get access to all dlc prior to Elsweyr for a month. See if you like it. Elsweyr is a """chapter""" so it's not included with ESO plus.

Dragons are cool. Crafty Afliq is a good magicka set (which you could easily farm or buy in the traders but...). You get a notable house. Terrain looks great. One of the public dungeons is cool af the other meh.

If you enjoy ESO at all, I’d say it’s worth it and this cant be stressed enough. Dragons are cool. They did a great job on them. Fighting them reminds me of when I was a noob and dolmens were DANGEROUS lol.

I truly think that will be the route to go. Do a 1 month script and try everything and go from there. I forgot how expensive this game can get.

Although the zone is nice and large and the quests are fun, you can beat the ENTIRE content in just one weekend. That's main story, all side quests, dungeons and trial. I'd wait until it goes on sale.

But they have a upgrade for 39.99 on the PlayStation store. I think to get the other 2 it would be another $20.
But if I did they eso plus I would get them all for free as long as I keep my eso plus going.

No you don't. OP was discussing the Elsweyr Upgrade ($39.99) that's just Elsweyr. The Elsweryr Standard Edition' ($59.99) is the one that includes the base game, Morrowind and Summerset.

I would be better off buying Elsweryr Upgrade ($39.99) and then doing the eso plus. I already have the base game. No point in buying it twice just to get Morrowind and Summerset. Thanks bluebird for bring that up.

As much as I like Elsweyr, if you're not into doing the current content (mostly Sunspire), then I would wait until it was on sale or even free next year. If you haven't done Morrowind or Summerset or Clockword, you can pick these up pretty cheap (or even 'free' if you do ESO+, if you don't have them). There is a lot of content between those expansions/DLCs that can keep you busy. Elsweyr, while enjoyable, doesn't present a lot of new content... Summerset had a new skill line and a new crafting type on top of the main story quest and such. All Eslweyr really brings you is Necromancer and a new trial.

I think it boils down to... are you really into the story quests and/or would you really play the heck out of the new trial? If you think you'll get your money worth there, sure. If not, I'd pass until it was cheaper.

If you play Elder Scrolls Legends too, then you should be aware that playing ESO while owning Elsweyr right now until the 25th (i think) will earn you 15 card packs from the upcoming Elsweyr card expansion that are awarded on the 27th. It's something to consider if you play that game too.

Every year, when preordering the new chapter, the old chapters are being offered for free along with it. Keep that in mind while making the decision. After that, Elsweyr will become a regular DLC that is included in ESO+ (the Necromancer class will likely be separated from it by then). Since there is plenty of content to go around that you could catch up on, the only reason to buy Elsweyr now is because of its new features an a desire to experience them sooner rather than in a year.

    It's your money.

If you just want the Necro, then I'd wait. It really isn't all that. If you just want to run through the newest content, then why not?

At the end of the day, the price point is reasonable, and the content is quality. If you want to dive in, then go for it.

Depends on what you play the game for. If you're a Quester and story lover/explorer, then yes of course it's worth it.

If all you care about is PvP then no it's not, unless you can't live without trying the Necromancer Class.

Well at the end of the day. I'm going to just purchase it. I'm more about exploring and doing quest. I do not care for PvP at this point. I figure what do I have to lose.

We have crown gifting now - with enough gold, you can pay trustworthy people to buy a DLC for you. The exchange is usually between 200-400 gold per crown depending on who you're trading with. It's best to wait until the DLCs are on discount, which usually happens during their release anniversary.

Also, if you don't want to be a criminal, you don't have to bother with Dark Brotherhood and Thieves' Guild DLCs, they are of little use to honest people (aside of world bosses, delves and the welcome gift you get upon first entering each of their respective capital cities). ;)
