Can I choose which intro to play when starting a new character?

Hi everyone.

So I've got Summerset and Morrowind installed and when I start a new character I start the Summerset intro. Is it possible to choose where I start, either Summerset, Morriwind or the main game? I actually thought it made more sense to start off in the Cold Harbor intro and play through that. It explains what Sky Shards are and if you're into role playing it explains why you can't die, being Soul Shriven. Also there are a few characters in the game that mention your lack of a soul. Since Morrowind you can skip the intro and get out into the world and it doesn't make as much sense. I imagine it also messes up how recurring characters like Razum dar react to you but I'm not sure.

What does everyone else think about that? I think the hooded figure works well enough and is quite cool actually but you now start Cold Harbor with all your gear. And if you want to do Morrowind you now miss the cool ship wreck intro.

And something I'm curious about how the intro to Summerset starts. In the cinematic you're in a party exploring a ruin, and you wake up in a cell. If you play with an existing character and you use the Wey Shrine to get there do you miss all that or do you actually start the quest by meeting those adventurers and journeying to the ruin... and then finding yourself in that cell? That would be cool.

Thanks everyone.

See ya.

You can’t choose. You have to do the Summerset tutorial and then port to an alliance city to get the quest to “meet with my benefactor” in order to do the Coldharbor start zone. Just close your eyes and think of Tamriel lol

If you play your existing character there is a prologue quest starting with Vanus Galerion in the Mages guild (Daggerfall, Davon's Watch, or Vulkhel Guard, depending on your faction), you do not get to go through the ruin with the cool dream like brain synapse clouds. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/404450/spoiler-summerset-will-have-a-new-tutorial-sneak-peak-another-missable-skillpoint

We have been saying since Morrowind that there are missing skill points and again in Summerset a missing skill point for existing characters.

Personally I still wish they would rework the whole tutorial setup someday. Let people choose where to start (classic coldharbour, morrowind, summerset, elsweyr), and also find some way to send that extra skillpoint to those characters who were made before the new expansions kinda gave out "double tutorials"...

Of course, I also always wished the tutorials automatically let to coldharbour without the "mysterious benefactor" step in between. Escape firemoth isle, get picked up by worm cultists that take you to manimarcos sacrifical chamber. Get free of the mind trap, run into some worm cultists that... you get the idea right? With an option to escape and do it later... but unless you specifically do that, the "auto drive" leading you that way for the "classic playthrough"... the stories make a lot more sense that way.
And eventually the characters that were unfortunate adventureers during those tutorials can come back to these places, and deal with the trouble hinted at in those tutorials and such... (at least that's how I play mine, always go for the classic plot, and do the new stuff with my old characters first)

And someday... perhaps... distribute the tutorials automatically per race! Like... any altmer characters get the summerset "mind trap" tutorial, and dunmer characters get the morrowind "firemoth isle" tutorial, and khajiit characters might get the upcoming elsweyr tutorial, and each of the other races get their own little turorial, all of which end up under Mannimarcos knife, and in that coldharbour cell...

Oh, well. Maybe they will implement something to make tutorials more fun someday.

Agree that we need an option on where to start. I would start in Coldharbour 100% of the time and it is frustrating that I cannot.

When I finish Summerset I was thinking of uninstalling my game (PS4) and not downloading the expansions so that when I start a new game I'll start in Cold Harbour, but I don't know if I can update the game without automatically downloading and installing the expansions again.

I suppose I could set up a different account.

you can't NOT download the expansions.
Its only 1 full game that you can download.
The access to DLC zones just depends on what is unlocked (paid for) in your account.

So if you account has Summerset, you will always start in Summerset. If you dont have Summerset and have Morrowind, you will start in Morrowind. If you dont have either of the chapters you will start in coldharbour.

I set up a second account and didn't buy any of the DLCs, just the base game for the code since the entire game is already installed. So the characters on that account start the Coldharbor part, and then go on from there.

My main account, I bought the Gold Edition, so the first two or three girls started in MW, and then for the next few, I bought Summerset. I'm dodging that with the second account....

I was afraid of that. Second account for me then.

I wonder if the devs considered this when they made the game this way. Didn't one guy at the meeting put his hand up and say why don't we just let the player have the choice.

    Thanks guys.

Maybe you can help me with one other thing guys. I've setup a new user on my PS4 and played they game with that and praise Kyne it works. I started a new character and there I am in Cold Harbour. Perfect.

But what I'd prefer to do is play on my main PS4 account, and select which ESO account I want to log into when I launch the game. Is that possible or must I do it the way I have now, with two PS4 accounts?

Thanks again guys. I've enjoyed this discussion.

i dont know about difderent accounts on console sry.

but an Addition to coldharbour tutorial: even if you have morrowind or summerset you can do the coldharbour tutorial. just after the chapter tutorial.
there will just be a quest where you meet someone get hit on the head and wake up in coldharbour.

but sadly there is no way to do morrowind tut at all if you own summerset

it would be kinda nice with the introduction of elsweyr that they allow you to choose either elsweyr, morrowind, summerset or an original alliance to start

Yes, I prefer to do the original coldharbour tutorial and main quest/starter zones before the expansion content. It is a bit jarring to start a character in Summerset, meet up with Raz, do a bunch of quests with him, then go to Kenarthi's Roost and have him act like he doesn't know me :(

Agreed. It just ruins the whole flow of the start of the game. Thinking about it, I can't believe they did it that way, and FORCE you to do it that way.

    Cheers guys.

@basketcaseNZ - I haven't a clue about your login question, don't use consoles. You can't do it on PC though - I have to log out to login screen, then input the @name and pw for the other account. PITA. Serious PITA.

I got lucky. Didn’t own Morrowind when I started and Summerset wasn’t out so it was Coldharbor and it was cool. I started my Second Character after I got Morrowind and was like WTF lol.

Another thing that is stupid and immersion-breaking is when you get approached by the hooded figure and the quest is foisted on you, whether you talk to them or not, is the wording of the quest entry. It says "I died and woke up in Oblivion". This is before you do anything.

They couldn't even get that right.

They dont allow choices in order to make the new zones seem more populated.

Well this sucks, came back to ESO after a long break and multiple expansions released only to restart my main and I thought "finally, a necromancer!" wait... I start outside of Coldharbour? but, that's the perfect place to start as a necromancer! 😡

It could be worse, it could be FallOut '76 😂🤣

We need a single short tutorial and a long tutorial and the option to skip. No need to explain or justify which tutorial you choose, just do, or not, the one you want.

Then, when you leave the tutorial, some mechanism be it a portal or a ship or a transport center or heck a hot air balloon, I don't care, takes you to the starter area of your choice.

Now, one reason we do have these different tutorials is to set the stage for the new content. Well, the starter area we choose can serve to set this stage.

And, the really cool thing, most all the content to do what I outlined above already exists. Just add some scripting and a few NPCs or activators and done.
