First time and mostly the lying, fake dragonborn, obviously, but I have picked the other 2 as well at some point to see the appearance of the that weapon would drop.
Fan of playing magblade since 2015. (PC NA) Might be joking in comments.

I've only done the main story line on one character and I chose Varen. Seemed like the obvious choice, at that point Varen has literally nothing left to offer, he's blind, crippled, and none of the knowledge he gained from the Elder Scrolls was useful beyond that point. Plus it gives him the chance to atone for his wrong doing.
Varen could easily have sat on the throne as so many before him with out the "divine right" that others like the Remans had enjoyed. And it would have been fine, most of Cyrodiil would have sighed a sigh of relief and who knows maybe places like High Rock and E/W Skyrim would have been more open to interacting with the Empire. But his obsession with divine right absolutely destabilized the region and spun the surrounding kingdoms and provinces into chaos.
Besides, I got fed up of him telling me to go and do other stuff while he prepared the next leg, then literally as soon as I get 30 yards from the Harbourage... Vestige! I was just there, right there, you maniac.
Varen, of course. It really shouldn't have been a choice and didn't add anything meaningful to do so. Since they made it a superfluous choice there won't be any chances of seeing Sai or Lyris in the future, which is a shame because I liked them a lot.
sai sahan.
my reason?
what kind of idiot hides the all powerful amulet of kings from the strongest necromancer this world has ever known?
I dont tolerate stupidity. and technically, it's not varen's fault. it's mannimarco's fault.
I've sacrificed Sai and Lyris once, just to see what happens and how the others react. But every other time it's been Varen. The story seems to work better that way.

"We have found a cave, but I don't think there are warm fires and friendly faces inside."
So what happens if you killed Lyris when Greymoor comes out, do they address her resurrection?
I imagine the same thing in Dragonhold if you sacrificed Sai. " I dunno how I'm back" - Sai Sahan

The old blind bat who caused all the issues in the first place, every time.
He's had his life and he squandered it looking for glory and power. Yes he has some redemption in being integral to putting right what he caused to go so wrong. But given the choices, its him that has to go.
