Seemed like the obvious choice, at that point Varen has literally nothing left to offer, he's blind, crippled, and none of the knowledge he gained from the Elder Scrolls was useful beyond that point. Plus it gives him the chance to atone for his wrong doing.0 -

✭✭✭✭Varen AquilariosVaren could easily have sat on the throne as so many before him with out the "divine right" that others like the Remans had enjoyed. And it would have been fine, most of Cyrodiil would have sighed a sigh of relief and who knows maybe places like High Rock and E/W Skyrim would have been more open to interacting with the Empire.
