Battle for Riverhold

Battle for Riverhold - so that dragon at the end is stupidly difficult. As a level 30 I've pretty much handled everything so far, this guy is impossible. I've run around, dodged his attacks, tried to get him down, end up getting two shotted over and over. Not quite sure why the Devs thought this was a good idea....

I'm actually a little surprised/confused. When I got to the fight, they told me to use the Ballistae on him, which I did and he then crashed down into the square with like 1% health left, went invincible for ten seconds, then the health bar changed to like, what was it, 300k? Like your typical Quest Boss? Anyway was it that part you say is difficult? I didn't have a problem, then again I wasn't a low level.

You don't have the horn for Riverhold.

You must be doing something wrong because that dragon didn't even hit me I think. Did you use the ballista? Roll dodge, block his attacks? Area of effect abilities, dots to damage him?

For me the battle went like: I shot the dragon in the head with the ballista -> I ran in a circle around him and killed him in seconds. (after the ballista his health was somewhere around 300k)

I'm not the best of players, but I've gotten through a number of quest bosses no problems. Putting DoTs on, dodging, but he goes down very slowly.... Are there any safe zones? I just keep dying

You're not right on top of him are you? Dragons have a damage aura around them: if you're melee you can stand way farther back than you think you can and still hit.

No safe zone in this fight. I mixed it up with [spoiler-protection]

At lvl30 he is something with 300k and it requires a lot more avoiding and dodging. As far as i remember my lvl30 days the best friend was patience...

Edit: Maybe swap food for something HP only. At this level it might scale to +7000HP

Err...but in my case it die VERY fast so I don't even know what mechanic the fight has except the ballista shot. It felt like just a normal delve boss.
  • jayssenrwb17_ESO
I've used the ballista, I run around him, but my DPS is not enough (even though every other boss drops fast). Then all it takes is one or two hits and I'm dead. I've got a feeling this boss is over tuned for low levels, or maybe certain classes, builds.

Well I did this on my magnecro healer at level 26? I didn't allocate any cp points. I nearly died once but I made sure to self heal, stay out of stupid, and use potions and buff food. I was expecting a harder fight tbh, seeing as there were many forum complaints on the first day. Most important thing was, I made sure to stay behind it.

Granted I'm high level but he went down quickly like any other level 1 boss. I was quite disappointed. They really need to buff these types of enemies for high level character; it was not satisfying to defeat this one at all.

I tried crouching behind the "safety" walls and he simply pulled me through them right up to him.

I did him on a level 19 Necro so I'm not sure why you're getting killed so fast . Can you record and upload the fight maybe so we can see what's going wrong to try to help?

Yeah you can't stay back there but they will block the fire breath or Fus from hitting you in a pinch. I did that fight under level 20 you can do it :)

    Which safe zones?

Also, are we talking about the fight where there are two dragons, and the leader tells the other one to go kill you?

It we are, there is a stone wall around that fight area. There are 3 or 4 exits where you can get behind the wall. The edge(s) (corner) of each exit look like it's a column. You can stand behind that column/corner without taking damage (whereas behind the wall, you are not shielded from his attacks). I did that, but got caught running into the open to attack him, and each time it's one or two hits and I'm done. Three times I've gotten his smaller health bar down to zero, but then he seems to ramp up his damage, and I can't make a dent in that larger bar.

Is this a quest that can be shared?

The build up towards the fight took me longer than the actual dragon fight itself. Thing was dead in seconds after the Ballista took out 99% of its health.

    Really disappointing tbh.

IIRC the hard part of that battle was finding the dragon to shoot with the ballista. I kept thinking it was flying around somewhere.
