Chapter and Update are DIFFERENT things, please, don't mix them

Guys, let us clear this out:

A Chapter is a new zone and a new story. New land, music, costumes, NPCs and enemies. New lore.

An Update is all things we all don't like: nerfs, class changes, skill changes.

A new Class is a new class.

These 3 things are different experince. Please, don't melt them in one pot while discussing a Chapter.

I love Chapters. I hate Updates. When the time for a new Chapter comes, an Update is inevitable. So please, don't blame a Chapter of the things that an Update does to your character. A Chapter is just a new zone and a new story. Elsweyr Chapter is amazing. Update 22 is... well, my persorc feels ok, I don't PVP, so it is changed nothing for me. New class - I don't want to level a new character to try, so I just can't judge.

Please, don't mix 3 different things. Please.

A Chapter is a glorified DLC to make more exclusive cash sales before inevitably joining the ranks of the rest of the DLCs down the line. I'm okay with that though, I pre-purchased each one and will continue to do so.

Chapters are part of updates, but updates cover more than just the chapter. Cannot have a new chapter without an update.

Well, I just talked about a Chapter, an Update and a Class being 3 different things to evaluate. A glorified DLC? I don't care how it is called, a chapter, a dlc, an expansion, an addon or whatever else. As a lore fan, I'll buy any new content except dungeons.

Yet they are different things. One team works on a new zone and story. The other team nerfs the skills and ruins the world. These are different things to discuss. A new chapter - it is just Northern Elsweyr, not mechanics.

I agree: a chapter is not an update. It adds new content.

That said, when a Chapter or DLC is released, a software update may be included. Stuga, Alessio and Concordia are evidence of an update being applied when new content is released. Fulfulling the promise of it being something that we don't like...

Well, I don't mind Alessio and Concordia - they're quiet unless you specifically walk up to them. Stuga.... yeah. PITA.

A "Chapter" is really just a large DLC. Zenimax refrained from calling it a DLC because they had committed to providing ESO+ subscribers with access to all DLC, which means they couldn't charge subscribers for it. So, they came up with a clever rename.

What I find silly is when people call it a "patch".

Who gives a toss. Call it what you like. It doesn't change the content. Just enjoy the game rather than crying into your beer because some call it an update but others a chapter.

The free quarterly updates have contained a lot of good game additions, including One Tamriel, Homestead, and the Outfit system. To say that they only contain balancing changes, and that all those changes are negative, is quite misleading.
