How do I learn to tank right?

My new Necro is the first time I level a non DPS (I didnt knew that queues could be less than 20 minutes O.O), and at first i tried to do many random dungeons so that I would learn how to tank right…

Well... I didnt… The amount of Dungeons I got without some CP 600+ Speedrunner can be counted on one hand, and when there was no speedrunner, the bosses were no real challenge either, mostly mistakes barely mattered…

Now I am about to reach Level 50, and I have no real tanking experience for when the time comes to do DLC/Veteran Dungeons...

How can I learn what I have to do as a Tank in this game when 50 levels of leveling content didnt give me any chance to practise?

You go into vet and tank vet.

Look, even without that speedrunner normals are going to teach your nothing as you said yourself. Go to simple vets and get to practising. It's really not that hard.

You may want to check out EmphaticStatic's dungeon guides on yt. They're short and teach you the important mechanics for every boss without further blah-blah.

Here's something to read up on from a very good tank: https://woeler.eu/tanking-eso-beginners-guide/

Find yourself a guild if you don't already have one, and play with like minded people that understand what situation you are in, and that can help you develop your tanking skills.

Learning how to tank is as much actual experience as it is watching videos or reading guides. Like someone else said, try getting into easy vet dungeons like Wayrest and Crypt of Hearts, and practice in those environments. Since people can be really rude and impatient though, I recommend not doing this with random groups and instead suggest grouping with friends and/or guildmates who know you're trying to learn.

If you're on PC NA feel free to send me a friend request and I'll help you out. I have a friend who'd probably be more than happy to join us, as she likes helping people too. My @handle is Ras_Lei.

    Hey Mann

Tanking is a great thing to do. The best tanks make really hard content easier.

I second the recommendation for Woeler’s pages and videos.

    https://woeler.eu/tanking-eso-beginners-guide/

J_Dub has an interesting video on necro tanks

    https://youtu.be/W2ecZ8sKpH0

The best thing you can do is find a party/guild that can help you refine your tanking skills, from real basics like taunting, to more sophisticated things like controlling the space and supporting your group.

    Good luck and have fun

I've recently started a Nord tank, unsure where I'll go with my necro, but from a complete newbie perspective:

For gear, focus on heavy armour (maybe 1 light, 1 med for undaunted passive), health, stamina and block cost reduction. Run a lightning stave on back bar with a crusher glyph. I use sword and board on the front with weakening / stamina.

Make sure you've got a taunt slotted. I use 2 - the melee one from 1-hand-and-shield and the ranged undaunted taunt. \

Try to level up mages guild - Balance is amazing but takes quite a lot of grinding.

As a general rule, always taunt and move away from the group so that the boss is facing you but away from other players.

Idk, there's probably so much more useful info out there, but these are the main things I've learned as a newbie tank!

Go to Craglorn and activate the rifts. Tank that.

Tanking is easy. heavy armor, armor buff, food, taunt.

    Block heavy attacks.

Move out of really bad ground effects or directional attacks then move back into place. Don't move the boss more than you have to, or your group's dps will drop.

Some bosses have weird agro drop mechanics, some have no agro at all. get used to those so you can know how to pick them back up after a drop without wasting resources spamming your taunt.

Buff your group, and have a good self heal.

Now you can tank like a pro.
    “Whatever.”
