“Gifting” Chapters in exchange for ingame gold

Is it against the rules to trade Elsweyr Chapter in exchange for ingame gold?

I cannot find anything that says “gifting” new Chapters in exchange for ESO gold is against TOS or not. Chapters as in the DLC that you can ONLY buy with real world currency.

There’s loads of people in zone and guild chats asking to be gifted Elsweyr in exchange for gold (XBOX NA)

I say it’s against the TOS, it’s borderline buying gold in exchange for real currency since you aren’t going through something ZOS created like crown gifting... Yet some people argue it’s not against the rules.

I am aware Vvardenfell and Summerset are indeed giftable DLC since they are now available for sale with crowns.

I’d really appreciate a clarification from ZOS or a link to an existing answer about this question..

yet players are saying it’s okay since ZOS gets the money.. and say it’s basically like crown gifting. So that’s the confusion everyone is having.. haha

The only items you are 'allowed' to gift for ingame goods are the ones with the gift option, afaik.

And I can hear it now how hundreds of people got scammed out of their CC, bank, or game account info over this one. Be better to leave this one alone.

if it doesn't have the gifting option, then it's not. External ways of gifting are not made by ZOS and therefore not according to the terms. If someone gives their password willingly, it's natural selection.

There is still *some* risk for crown codes to have been fraudulently obtained. However, the person who obtained them fraudulently would have to apply those codes to his or her account before gifting them so there's more time for ZOS to detect the discrepancy before those crowns could be traded.

But with a Chapter software key, there's really no guarantee on its origin other than what the other person is telling you. And as you're the person putting that key on your account, you're the one who is going to have to face your account receiving disciplinary action should that Chapter key be fraudulent. I was talking about 'constructive knowledge' in another thread, and in a case like that you'd have no defense as by agreeing to the TOS you have constructive knowledge that you obtained that key in a way that violates the TOS. Even if you can't remember the exact line of the TOS forbidding it.

So it's really not the same thing. Crowns are generally only received after cleared payment, go directly into a player's game balance, and have no outside monetary resell value. You can only spend crowns on crown items. That's why they're considered in-game items.

For crown store items, yes. But chapters cannot be bought with crowns in game. On ps4, we get directed to the playstation store. Cold hard cash for chapters.

Yes I know and this is why I think it would be against the TOS.. yet people will argue to the death that it’s fine and ZOS allows it.

If they allowed it, they would let you do it from the crown store. If you can't do it using the crown store, the best thing for your account is to assume it's against ZOS policy.

you can gift chapters through steam, but only if they are on your friend list. which means they must also be on steam. there is no keycode involved and it goes directly to their account from steam.

If you can gift it directly from the crown store while logged into your own game then it is permissible. This is via the crown store gifting system However I am pretty sure that gifting DLCs is not an available option.

If it is anything else that it would involve real world money and that is not permissible and a ToS violation.

As for Zos responding to this, they already have and pretty much stated what I just said.

Gina clarifies in the above link what I said. Her next comment in that thread does clarify that crown store items are in game items.

They really should put 3 month ESO+ Sub tokens and Chapter tokens as an ingame item.

Player A ) purchases with fiat money (not crowns) a ESO+3M or Chapter token which is a physical (erm, by in game standards, meaning it can sit in your inventory, not on your desk), redeemable token that they can sell for gold. Player B ) can either engage in a trade window or purchase off a guild store from Player A ).

ZOS still gets the fiat transaction. Player A ) gets the gold. Player B ) gets the item they want. The only person that loses is the gold bot farmers that Player A ) may have gone to instead for gold.

Yes, ZOS has already responded to this several times. A google search would have answered that for you.

Well I must’ve searched it wrong because I only found results about Crown gifting, people buying ESO GOLD, and people asking about DLCS.. that is why I came here, I didn’t find results involving my question.

Not sure why the conversation is still continuing as I provided the relevant statements Zos has provided that would answer your questions. I even provided the direct link to Gina's comment and that there was a follow up comment she made in the same thread.

So unless you can find a gift function from within the crown store the answer seems to be a solid no. Unless you can find a 3rd party selling the DLCs you could buy and gift there is not a way around the ToS. Only 4 DLCs have been made available outside of the game, not including chapters.

You can gift DLC game packs from the Crown Store, either individually or as bundles when the receiving person does not have any of the bundled content or collectibles unlocked.

That does not involve the sale or transfer of game content from one person to another. The access key part is specifically what makes buying, selling, or trading Chapter content directly from other players against the Terms of Service.

They just need to make it possible to gift crowns directly. For things that you can't gift, people will just try to trade gold for a key code for crowns from an outside website.
