I recently returned to the game after buying the new expansion and noticed that the performance isn't what it used to be; (minor stutter lag for about 1-2 sec after using waypoint, nothing major) but I quickly put it out of my mind since that wasn't a major issue and didn't hinder my gameplay.
Until I made my way to a high-population area (Alik'r desert) and suddenly it felt like I was playing the game on a 10-year old PC that has never been updated (I'm not, by the way) and no matter what kind of settings I use or in what combination I get constant freeze lag for about 2-8 seconds as if the game tried to catch up on the information that's being sent. Sure, in these areas there can easily be some 30+ players running around but it has never been a problem in the past, not even a little.
I started checking things like FPS,Ping, and graphics settings just to make sure it's not on my end and as far as I can tell it's all okay and now I'm at a loss as what to do in order to solve this issue.
I know it's not my connection, 100mbit fiber hasn't struggled before and it wasn't during this either.
All drivers are up to date and nothing major was running in the background, but as it stands now the game is near un-playable for me which feels a bit sour since I just spent money on the new expansion and can't even fully enjoy it.
