Let me start out and say that ESO is NOT like that other popular MMO out there ( I refuse to use it's name. )

In a Dungeon run, the " Holly Trinity"... Tank, Heals and DPS is a part of ESO, but it is not what you may think. The lines that separate these roles are very blurry.

In regards to Heals...
The "Healer" will be able to support the other roles during a dungeon run, but ( A VERY BIG BUT HERE ) A " Healer ", in ESO, is NOT a " FOOL " proof support member. ( emphasis on the Fool part )

Each and every member of a group MUST take their own survivability into account.

-There are no focused heals so you have to be aware of your surroundings.
- If you stand in a ring of fire during a battle with a mob, you will take to much damage for the healer to compensate for.
- If, during a Boss fight, you stand in It's AOE, you will take to much damage for the healer to compensate for.
- If you run out side the healers AOE during a heal, you will not get any heals.
- If a healer comes under attack by mobs, he / she will defend themselves and thusly be less likely to be able to offer any heals for a short time, until they are once again free from attack.

ESO is NOT like that other popular MMO. The Tank cannot just run up to a mob and start swinging away at it and expect the " Healer " to keep them up during the fight.

In ESO, " Healers " are NOT your safety net. Once you understand this small part of the game, you will find that you and your group will survive much longer.

I, as a healer, still wonder if we will occasionally get the "MMO rule #1: Blame the healer" attitude. Probably from some people we will but I usually don`t really care if I know it was clearly not my fault :D

I tried tanking in Spindleclutch at level 13. It was extremely difficult. This game is peculiar in that I don't see any abilities to hold aggro on a group, so our healer was constantly being harassed, and the mobs I did hold aggro on were dealing substantial damage to me (the casters especially). I was only in white gear, so I'm sure that did not help, but they don't make it easy.

Healing draws aggro I think, so DPS and tanks need to pay attention and protect healers when they draw it.

I grouped with a healer for the first time last night and we were pretty unstoppable together. Solo my archer nightblade can take 3-4 mobs on at once but with a healer keeping my health up I was taking on packs of 10-15 and slaughtering them (one at a time of course, focus damage folks). We even took on the group dungeon encounter with just two of us.

Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

As a healer, I shudder when I think of some PUGs I have had hahaha. I completely agree with the OP. This game has no room for fools. Vet content will certainly separate the fools from the serious players as I have seen. I am no elitist, but the Vet dungeons require all players to be 100% on the ball. Players that can't dodge or use the healers cleansing circle to remove a debuff will cause their groups to wipe and will find themselves grinding a lot of solo content.

As a side note, some of you wanna be healers out there..... equipping a healing staff does not make you a healer. I am sure you could get through perhaps most of the content from 1 - 50 with just a healing staff, but Vet stuff.... it's a whole different ball game. There is no cleanse on a healing staff FYI >.<

Agreed. All party members need to be careful of their surroundings. When I first started healing I could easily spend 80-90% of my magicka in a few seconds healing someone who is standing where they shouldn't be. Now I have learnt it's best to let them die otherwise I have no magicka to keep the rest of the group up

I'll usually let people know to stay somewhat near me, as I like to use a few of the spells (and my ultimate is one) that have a circle to stand in in order to get the effect.

Aside from that my groups haven't been bad. I have had people learning their roles a bit, as tanks need a good deal of adjusting to the ESO way too (you're not gonna be able to hold the attention of all the trash). The most important things are, as the OP pointed out, don't stand in the red, and then I would add that if a mob is doing one of the heavy, blockable strikes on you.. block it. Even on a tank those things will result in a healthy chunk of your health going bye bye. Most the time I see tanks taking huge chunks of damage it's because they aren't bothering to block those heavy hitters.

All that being said, everyone has seemed really understanding so far. I had one group that wiped a lot on the last boss of something Caverns (level 20-23 dungeon). No one blamed anyone or dropped out. No one insulted my healing, or yelled at the folks that sometimes got hit by aoe. Has actually been really pleasant so far :)
