I can't believe they are making all that much money on skyshards. I've seen the prices. Not buying any.

So I don't think lorebooks, which are much easier to find than some skyshards, should need to be in the crown store.

I'm not saying I want them. I'm just pointing out how absurd ZOS is getting with what they consider 'convenience' items.

I'd be happy if they put everything in the crown store and I mean everything, including a character with every trophy, award, achievement, pet, horse, right down to every loose pillow in every INN. Just think of the bragging rights on how hard I worked for it all.

    Joke btw.

It takes like 10 hours to farm all the lore books, probably double that on console.

And you need to do it on every magicka character.

It's an absurd grind. Doing the same 10 hour fetch quest over and over again is maddening. Games are supposed to be fun.

I was 7 hours on my necro for psijic, mages guild and skyshards in each of the zones where psijic took me.

It wasn’t the most fun I’ve ever had in game but to circumvent any grind with a pay to pass option is wrong and bad for long term for the game.

This sort of thing encourages more revenue based decisions for things which are unnecessary and take a fraction of your overall playtime in the grand scheme of things as well as being one and done per character. 7 hours for each character is hardly an absurd time considering people have 100+ hours on multiple alts.

The more content taken out the game by purchasing things the quicker the value is removed and the worse the game does in the long term. This smacks of getting a quick buck.

Yes it’s optional but it’s also an MMO and should be grindy and this one is already very non grindy compared to others.

One of the reasons the MMO genre is dying is because it's grindy and not fun. People would rather play a fun single player AAA game for 10 hours than grind an MMO for 10 hours.

    Grind drives players away.

The whole "MMOs need to be grindy" narrative was introduced when MMOs were subscription-based and the developers needed a way to keep people playing as long as possible without investing into new content. I commend ZOS for breaking a lot of MMO stereotypes, and it's paid off for them.

MMOs do always need an element of grind, they need replay ability it’s getting the balance right which Zos has done well for the most part.

This isn’t one of them though, this is just taking money to skip the grind. Just make the skillines account bound if they want to make them less grindy.

Those players who would rather play AAA games for 10 hours are still going to be annoyed at the MMO when they need to run pledges for keys, level undaunted, get caltrops, get VMA weapons, get AY weapons, get new gear every patch or so and stones to change the traits. The grind is persistent and no one enjoys running HRC 100+ for daggers so even if the content is better than mages guild initially the grind will kill them.

Creating options and monetising the ability to skip content to cater to those with low attention spans isn’t a long term business model for a MMO and will totally split their player base.
The money isn’t infinite from those willing to spend and they ultimately go elsewhere and those against it get switched off and leave the game.

The only thing this does is allow zos to generate as much money within that window where they milk both groups of players.

    Well…

If ZOS is wise and cautious enough they will wait until the whole matter about the "Anti-loot box bill" will be resolved… Especially since the bill not only includes a passage about prohibiting Loot-Boxes and P2W Microtranscations but also a passage which clearly states a definition for what Loot-Boxes (p. 11 of the bill) and Pay2Win Microtransactions (p. 7 of the bill) are…

Excerpt from the "Definition Pay-2-Win Microtransaction" part:
    ""
    ….

    (7) PAY-TO-WIN MICROTRANSACTION

    (A) IN GENERAL

    — The term ‘‘pay-to-win microtransaction’’ means an add-on transaction to a interactive digital entertainment product that—

    (i) with respect to an interactive digital entertainment product that, from the perspective of a reasonable user of the product, is a game offering a scoring system, a set of goals to achieve, a set of rewards, or a sense of interactive progression
through the product’s content including but not limited to narrative progression—

    (I) eases a user’s progression through content otherwise available within the game without the purchase of such transaction;

    (II) assists a user in accomplishing an achievement within the game that can otherwise be accomplished without the urchase of such transaction;

    ....

    ""

If that bill would pass as it is P2W microtransactions would be prohibited and according to the definition that would also include everything which "eases a user's progression through content otherwise available within the game"... For ZOS that would mean that selling Skyshards (as it is now atm) or selling Skilllines (as ZOS wants to in the future) in ESO would be illegal and prohibited..!

So... I wouldn't get my hopes up and also wouldn't ask for anything atm..!

    Best regards
    Shadow

The worst thing about this is that it actually incentivises bad game design.

It becomes more profitable to create a questline so *** tedious and unenjoyable that players will actually pay to avoid it.

It becomes less profitable to create content that is genuinely engaging and which players want to play.

It’s the very definition of insanity.

Your assertion that this will lead to more grindy content is baseless as the skyshard grind, Mages Guild grind, Psijic grind, etc. were all created long before ZOS even considered adding shortcuts to the crown store.

Selling these things is no different from selling mount training.

Nobody wants to re-grind all this trash on another character. It's fine to do once, but beyond that, it becomes a huge waste of time that isn't fun for anyone. If I can pay to get back to having fun in the game, I'd gladly do it.

Obviously the ideal solution would be to stop releasing grindy content and to allow class changing or account-wide unlocks, but that's not going to happen. Releasing shortcuts to the crown store is the next best solution.

There needs to be a grind for sure but after making more than like 5 toons, it just becomes a pointless grind. Who wants to get class lines to level 50, abilities morphed and level 4, weapon skill lines to level 50, fighters mages psijic and undaunted to lvl 9/10, pvp to get alliance skills, skyshards, and skillpoints for dungeons

No thanks. It takes a lot of time and work to perfect a toon for pve or pvp and it discourages a lot of players from even considering making a new toon. I see most players just race changing and recycling existing characters instead

I agree certain things shouldnt be in the crown store but things like mages guild and psijic should be able to bought, it's just for convenience

I have 8 characters. A fully specced end game Magplar with everything unlocked that I’ve needed, a level 50 NB who is only a level 50, a level 37 Sorc who is only a level 37 and 5 level 3s that have not left a bank in 3 to 5 years.

As of this week I had 2200 hours on my account with probably 2150 on my Magplar. Wasting 7 to 10 hours on a grind of any type is a full week of playing for me. I really do not and have not ever wanted to take a full summer out of actually playing ESO to find books for 7 more toons during the time I’m supposed to be enjoying entertainment.

Anything you complete once should be able to be purchased for other characters.

Not on pc so not sure how the skyshards ate being marketed - but i thought you had to have collected all the skyshards from the area on one character at least before you could buy them for another?

So not p2w really. More a convenience and one people on this forum have been asking for repeatedly. (Not me personally). Same with Mage’s guild. Is a pain to do on console on alts - luckily use ESO app on phone that shows maps otherwise would scream.

I dont really mind them putting things in the crown store for a large amount as long as you have to have done the thing at least once on one character, and that you can still get them free in game.

Yes, some character has had to collect the Skyshards for that Zone in order to unlock them in the Crown Store for an Alt.

Note, for when this hits the consoles, make sure to log into the character who has collected the skyshards first so the Crown Store knows you have them. Then you can apply them to the new Alt

Cyrodiil and maybe the IC are the only zones that make sense to do this on. And you can get plenty of skill points without those zones. Heck, only one of my Alts has all of Cyrodiil, and she only has half of the IC. None of my other alts have any skyshards other than the one just outside the Scroll building for the Alliance. I only picked that one up while doing the tutorial so I could have Rapids.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
