Vampire Bat Swarm intended to be direct or damage-over-time?

Currently, it scales with Master-At-Arms but not Thaumaturge from the CP system, indicating the game considers it direct. This is very counter-intuitive, because abilities that tick each second are typically expected to be considered damage-over-time. What is going on here?

It scales with Master at arms because it is considered direct damage, similar to Eye of the Storm. Typically DOT damage looks something like "Deals an additional X amount of damage over X seconds." 99% of PBAOE's are direct damage.

As I understand the changes, any Player based area of effect ability is now direct dmg. Hurricane, solar barrage, Eye of Storm, bats. The rationale is that they aren’t “sticky” AoE and are removed from you when you exit the AoE. A true DoT stays on you and can only be removed by purging.

I've noticed that "x total damage over y seconds" is treated as DoT while "x damage every y seconds" is treated as direct, but this latest patch we have this in the notes:

"Fixed an issue where these abilities were being considered Direct Damage, rather than Damage over Time" in reference to DK Standard, Templar Solar Barrage, Warden Impaling Shards, and DW Blade Cloak.

Solar Barrage and Blade Cloak are both PBAoE from the "x damage every y seconds" category and follow the player like Bat Swarm, but are now considered DoT, so it's as if ZOS has created a new inconsistency?

the build editor says its supposed to be Thaum. Who knows with ZOS, they love to add little rules without telling us because they arent bothered to fix it.

Interesting. Blade cloak being a DOT and effected by THURM definitely seems weird. Solar Barage as well. Definitely created some inconsistency there.

templar pain point was solar barrage being direct dmg when sweeps is thaum, led to weird CP scaling. Was adjusted for this patch.
