First time housing. I have no idea where to start. Want to make city, need your help :)

Hi. I bought coldharbor. Its nice and flat. I wanted to make a city / pedestrian zone / market area.
I don't have anything and I don't know where to get it either. I mostly looking for something to put on floor like a road or nice brick piles. I also need some walls to build houses. Any idea how to get this? I tried search eso fashion but I couldnt find it.

Start perhaps with chasing dragons in Elsweyr if you can?

The dragons sometimes drop furnishing recipes. There are several for floors and walls - or some can be found quite cheaply now on guild stores.

ah thanks. I have killed prob 100 dragons but sold all. So they called floors. I can search on that and buy, thank you.

There are wooden platforms you can also use as a floor, there are short walls, long walls, curved walls, spires, columns.

There is also an Alinor ballroom floor which is quite big and nice.

Have a look at something like this for inspiration. Its a street made by a super housing designer called Tezzer.
YouTube has many excellent examples of how other players have designed streets and villages. Don't be afraid to borrow ideas from others. It will help you find your own style and allow you practice designing and building.
Also, I strongly encourage you to download PTS if you are PC. This will allow you practice building styles without the cost.

There have been a number of items added to the crown store that are sections of walls and floors so it cuts down on the item count as opposed to individual bricks.

I also second the PTS for practice and a free way to preview things you might want to use before you pay for them.

This one is not so much a builder from scratch but rather a user of what she finds there.

However you are welcome to visit any of the homes and businesses of this one (@wenxue222).

You can use Essential Housing Tools or Port to Friends House for this.

Since that list was done this one might have acquired two or three more - most notably Sugar Island (Grand Topal Hideaway) and Claws Family Temple (Lunar Champion House - work in progress).

Think not only about that you wish to build a city - village is probably more practical - but the kind of place you want it to be. Who lives there and why? What do they do for a living? What do they make?

The best example I've ever seen of a city is Zendyra's Mournoth Keep, which if you have port to friend is /ptf port @zendyra 32

Absolutely the best piece of advice others have posted here is to download PTS and test stuff there. You can't get every property, but it's all free including Crown Store furnishings....and your feedback on the test server will help ZOS too (which of course is the main point of having a PTS).
