Bug: Quest: Beware the Purring Lair

This quest requires you to steal 3 items.
When I tried to pickup ANY of the three items I get the red popup to "steal" the item by pressing "E" (as normal) but pressing E does nothing. I can't pickup the items so the quest will not advance.

Kainarel✭✭✭I had the same problem with that quest - the option Take All won't work. I picked them up manually with the mouse cursor and clicking on the item, so it worked and I could finish the quest.1 -
Crapgame✭✭✭I must have a different setup. If I click on the item I will attack it. When I hover over the item with my mouse the only option is "E to steal" but pressing E does nothing.0

Ashryn✭✭✭✭✭Had the same problem, reported it, and other bugs...responses by customer help were basically useless. Eventually, went back on another day and tried 'E' again and it worked, so it may be a little bit random.
World Bosses often don't give credit all the time.
I've encountered so many quest bugs that I've stopped questing until they've had time to do some bug hunting. I suppose its to be expected with early release, however...Summerset didn't seem to have quite this amount of bugs to me upon early release.

This has been my experience as well. Sorry, a canned auto-response does not count as a solution. The worst is the footnote that says, "If we don't hear from you in 4 days we will mark this as resolved." I mean, I'm STILL WAITING for your resolution. How can you mark this as resolved?? CS is basically just waiting people out hoping that we will just give up.

I would question if you are using a mod like 'no accidental stealing' which requires you to crouch before you can steal? If you aren't used to stealing, you might not remember that you have it on.

The same glitch happens with my characters since the Elsweyr patch.
Normally, I would play with:-- ESO "Auto-Loot" settings turned "ON"
- ESO "Auto-Loot Stolen Items" turned "OFF"
Outside of quest-related areas, I can revert back to the settings I am used to.
I do not have any add-on Mods - just ESO's built-in game settings. So, @silvermistktralasub17_ESO , the glitch/bug happens irrespective of any add-ons.
On a side note, drinking an "Invisibility" potion, just before steeling, still leads to detection.

I am glad it worked for your wife as well.
My problem now is remembering to turn "Auto-Loot Stolen Items" off again. I am forever being accosted by guards, in public places, when I accidentally interact with a 'marked red' container. Good luck
