CP doesn't cause much power creep. One Tamriel and the nerfing of PVE content since that update is the real cause.

I remember needing to be level 15 in a full group with all roles covered to be able to do Fungal Grotto and needing at least greens. Now I can do it at level 5 (no CP spent) in a mishmash of whites, starter (no armor or stats), and a green or two as a solo noob.

CP is irrelevant in that comparison.

Making content more 'accessible' means the top end players are gonna blow through it. The top 10% of players are 3-4x better than the bottom half of the top 20% of players. Its a severe bell curve with a fat bottom.

I am sure it is an unpopular opinion, but I would like to see the CP system converted into something more akin to the AA system in EQ2. Class specific buffs that allow you to advance specialization within the class theme.
    So, as an example, Wardens.
The new system would associate each skill line with a constellation group. Animal Companions with Thief, Green Balance with Mage, Winter's Embrace with Warrior.
Wardens viewing each tree would be presented with different options that enhance their preferred playstyle based on the constellation. Because of how ESO works, there would be some overlap of course, and each tree would have a handful of more general purpose stars that would be useful to any setup.
So, just as an example, The Lover for a Warden could be something like:

Mooncalf replaced with Tamer. Each point added increases the regen of Bull Netch (specifically, there would be an equivalent for Blue Betty in the Mage) and if you max out points in it, it increases the duration of the netch by 4 seconds.

Arcanist replaced with Cliff-Strider. Each point added increases the range of Dive and its morphs by 0.1m. If you max out points on this star, a 2nd cliff racer will be summoned that does 25% of the damage of the base summon.

Healthy replaced with Falconer. Each point added decreases the cost of Falcon's Swiftness and it's morphs by 1%. If you max out points on this star, the speed buff becomes an area effect that can affect up to 6 players.

Tenacity replaced with Chitin. Each point added increases the base damage of Scorch and Swarm and their morphs by 0.1%. If you max out points on this star, the range of both abilities will be extended by 5m.

The passive stars could remain the same, or adjusted to be more class themed, or removed entirely.
This is a pretty slapdash example, but imagine a system like this for each class to really focus in on a gameplay style they enjoy? It would make for a lot more variety in builds because different armor sets couple with different CP configurations could all be, theoretically, equally viable, and the only real difference is in how they play.

anyway, just my 2 gold on the matter. CP always seemed such a sterile progression system, devoid of all flavor outside raw number inflation. Something more keyed to my character would be much more compelling.
