A way too early Chapter 2020 speculation thread.

Just as the Discussion Title says. Judging by what we know of about the 'Season of the Dragon' so far, my own personal guess right now is that next years chapter will be a full pocket of Oblivion zone much like Coldharbour.

I'd love to discuss this more when I see other thoughts and additions.

Ya know, just saying you think it will be a pocket of Oblivion is rather boring. Explaining how you got to that thought might be interesting.

The only daedric story that needs addressing so far is the Mages Guild. Fighters Guild was Molag related, and that got dealt with.

If there was to be a daedric realm, I want to go where the pretty butterflies are... and cheese.

Not sure about Oblivion pocket, but I'd like it to be about Hermaeus Mora and come with a zone dlc centered on Kemel-Ze dwarven complex.

I hear a lot about Winterhold, and I think it wouldn´t make a good chapter/dlc. Sure, the school would be cool and that, but I think it´s too small to be a zone. I´d rather have a whole Skyrim (or at least a two parts Skyrim, like Eslweyr) wich included a Winterhold college questline, dailies, skill line and all of that, like Artaeum. But not a whole quarter release (chapter/dlc) about such a tiny portion of Skyrim.

This is exactly my thoughts as well. I always felt like the Mages Guild stuff from the base game had more to give. Between than and these new PVP artifact weapons, I think next years chapter will deal heavily with Sheogorath.

I feel like its time for DC to get an expansion, although they have had a couple of big DLC's.

I'd like to see more of Skyrim, if only to see how well they can stick to the environment in the Skyrim game!

I imagine it will inevitably be revealed that Meridia ain’t the helping hand she’s pretending to be, so we’ll probably have to go to her daedric realm and/ or associated region in Tamriel. I’m not up to snuff on my lore, so I don’t know if there’s a specific populace that worships her.

Edit: Shivering Isles is also quite fanservicey and a possibility imo.

I hear what you're sayin', but I don't think ZOS thinks of updates in terms of Alliances. I think they just storyboard, pick a place in Tamriel that hasn't been visited and then go from there.

All that said, I'm not super against the rest of Skyrim getting added like some are.

I'm of the belief that, while perhaps not a full chapter, we will see Solstheim as part of this Dovah arc. Perhaps a DLC along the lines of Wrothgar?

I don't think ZOS is trying to balance the Chapters around the alliances, either. Early speculation along those lines got blasted out of the water when Elsweyr was announced.

I do not think we will see Skyrim in 2020, mainly because the 10th Anniversary of Skyrim is 11/11/21 and if I were ZOS+Bethesda, and I was ever going to do a ZOS rendition of western or central Skyrim, I would be aligning the two. I do not think they will do all of the remaining Skyrim in one Chapter. I think we will get the central part, possibly including Winterhold and Dawnstar, maybe as far south as Whiterun, or the western part with Solitude and Markarth. If they tried to do both, they would really have to revise their rules on Chapter content, and it would be an expensive Chapter. Edit: Otherwise, they would be skewered and roasted alive for making a Chapter that was too small and lacked content. The remainin Skyrim would easily be the largest Chapter they have ever done. The equivalent of several current DLC/base game zones.

I hesitate to speculate about the content for 2020, though. Mainly, I don't want to accidentally be right. I will say that I do expect them to try and top what they are doing this year. Whether they will be successful in that, is TBD.

There is a VERY solid chance the next chapter is going to have something to do with Vampires/werewolves.

It's one of the only untouched areas in the game and it would be giga easy to make an entire chapter about them.

@SirAxen Some of us are only like "ugh Skyrim" because it's been a constant "SKYRRRIIMM" for years with the TES community. Want to go with the most cliche chapter for ESO? Skyrim. Now I am NOT saying I wouldn't enjoy it because I would actually enjoy the Dwarven city of Markarth (MAKE IT A TRIAL!) but because it's been content we seen before and can experience in previous games, I am not excited about it.

I enjoy them building up on TES lore and cultures that have not been explored in any previous TES games before. Akivir would be a good one to explore even if it's not exploring the whole continent seeing as the two continents has had very few contact and every time Tamriel tries to take over any part of Akivir, they fail and vise versa. Seeing as they call Akivir the home of the dragons, it would make sense to go from the year of the dragon to their birthplace where between the Tsaesci (snake folk) trying to eat the dragons and the Ka Po'Tun (tiger beasts) trying to tame them, the dragons fled Akavir to Tamriel. It is said that the leader of the Tiger folk actually was able to turn into a dragon and held the appearance of a dragon but with tiger stripes.

My honest thought about that, not knowing the end storyline for Elsweyr yet (console peasant), maybe taking the storyline over to Akivir to learn more about the dragons past and even introduce a couple new races to interact with would be a fun and educational chapter or even just a DLC. It would be cool to fight beside the Tang Mo against the Kamal. It would also be great to see a storyline where your side ultimately loses in the end.

Yeah, no. That's just wishful thinking.

Vampires and Werewolves are way too mundane for a chapter. It would work much better in a small story DLC but a Vampire themed dungeon DLC is more likely.

Depends on financials I think, a Skyrim xpac is pretty much guaranteed cash injection due to existing fanbase. If they are still making good money / have a strong player base after Elsweyr drops, probably see some other random thing as at this point it almost seems like they took a “how little effort can we get away with but people will still buy it” approach.

MW got a new class and pvp style
SS got two new skill lines

EW gets a new class and smaller area than previous two. It just feels small in comparison, so a large xpac would be welcome next time around.

Not really. Vampires and werewolves are actually one of the most well developed and deep portions of ES lore. So not, they are not too mundane. If they can make dawnguard work in skyrim, they most certainly could make a chapter work for ESO.

There is no reason for them to be given a small story, they have enough lore and options to include a whole new zone, different main stories depending upon what you are (Vampire, hunter, or werewolf), revamps of both werewolf and vampire skill lines (but mainly vampire), and the addition of a whole different world skill tree for hunters. The amount of stuff I listed right there is already more than enough to fit into a chapter.

Just as the discussion title says: way too early.

That said, it needs to be as good as Orsinium. Wrothgar is the only zone where you SEE other players having any fun.

I suspect a daedric dimension is on the menu since the last time we stepped into one (aside from summerset i guess) was CWC. I would also like to have another zone outside the orbit of tamriel, ala coldharbour, cwc, and artaeum. maybe it could be a pocket like artaeum was, that's also part of a bigger thing.

Chapter: The Reach. Western skyrim, reaching into Falkreath. Hircine's hunting grounds become an explore-able zone. or maybe shivering isles.
