With all skill points in legerdemain at max rank you can still fail to force lock several times in a row if you get unlucky. I think for the time and skill point investment to max legerdemain and have all passives maxed for it you should always get 100% force lock chance.

The "85%" change to force the lock on the other hand seems to be some other number, countless times have I forced a lock two or three times before it breaks. Legit ZOS RNG doing it's thing

Think of the skill points you must invest to get the force lock passive.
Would it really be op if you could force lock with the skill line maxed? At most you will be saving like 5 seconds of time on those random force locks you fail despite having a 85% success chance. That still pales in comparison to the amount of time it takes to get the skill points used and get the skill line maxed out.
Making it guaranteed would simply be a small quality of life change.1 -

Picking locks is too easy for this to be important. If there was real difficulty in lock picking, at least for master locks, this choice would be relevant. But it wouldn't really matter since I 'right click destroy' picks once a toon reaches 200 picks.

Its more like if you unlock and level up your ultimate and use it, should it fire every single time? And the answer is yes. Because you spent the time unlocking it and purchasing it with skill points for it to work when you want it to..1 -

Some players find it hard and frustrating, or experience failing many, many times especially on the ones with shorter timers. If you find it so easy, you would loose nothing by the force pick being a 100% chance. The people who do not find it easy, on the other hand, would be able to bypass what is a frustrating experience for them.

✭✭✭✭✭I agree with @Turelus, upping the percentage chance on simple to 100% would be fine by me, but there should be some fail chance on the others.
Of course, the real nuisance of chests isn't the 15-or-more% fail chance, it's the near-absolute certainty that if you fail, you'll fail at least twice and probably three times before success. Nevertheless, there can be a reason to force them: speed. In certain tight locations, there's an extremely short window when an NPC who does not otherwise move turns away. Force lock is one of the ways my thieves stay clear of any bounty.

That, or make it so you get some fabricated replicate of the skeleton key from Sotha Sil (who posesses it briefly in the CWC expansion) for your efforts to save the city, but it's not quite the true skeleton key and it only works on chests (lore explanation for why you can't use it on doors for rooms you aren't allowed to open) so that we don't have to buy lockpicks.GH / 3/04/2021 / Elemental Catalyst Necromancer0 -

Nah, the good thief just popped that master lock in 1 second and is on to the next one before you. I have saved hours and hours of time smash and grabbing, it all adds up.
