Searching for Beginning PvP Advice, Builds, Progression, etc

Sharpfangjr
I'm interested in PvP and want to level up my Alliance War skill line. I would like a decent starting point - race, class, etc. I've read over great builds, but they mostly require skills and/or gear I just don't have access to quite yet. Can anyone advise me a guide or location I can find information for literally just starting in PvP?

If you’ve hit level 10, you can enter Cyrodil and do the starter quests.

    Have fun.

That's like telling a kid at 18yo to get out of your house and figure it out lol.

I think OP deserves a little direction lol.

The best advice is to join a guild that is active in PvP. A decent guild can help you with advice. Here is the forums you will get advice similar to what you obtained from videos but none will cater to your interests, only theirs.

If you play a templar, here is my guide. I include BASIC information on the skills, gear and race. There is even a simple chart to gear up where you pick one of the base sets, add a secondary set and put on any monster helm you want.

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/447514/templars-pvp-detailed-guide-suggestions-advice-etc-wrathstone/p1

its really about trying everything you can. My rule of thumb is, if it takes a week to farm or costs 1million gold to buy, don't use it. Best set to get is shacklebreaker in all armor weights; you'll use it on all your toons starting out before transitioning to other weights.

    My advice:

    1. PVP in battlegrounds and kyne (pre level 50 cyrodiil) immediately at level 10.
    2. if you're stamina - get a set of Hundings to use
    3. if you're magicka - get a set of Julianos to use
    4. enjoy the lvl 10 through lvl 50 battlegrounds and cyrodiil scene.
    5. take a look at alcasthq or dottzgaming websites for some beginner builds in your class of choice

For the most part, low level bg's and kyne are beginner friendly and a great place to just learn basic fighting mechanics against like skilled opponents. occasionally there are some sweaty twinks that will try hard and ruin the fun but for the most part it's a good entry into pvp.

Once you hit lvl 50 - you need to grind to cp 160 as soon as possible and get a build with cp 160 gear that fits your playstyle. I'd then do bg's and sotha sil until at least cp 500'ish. you can go to vivec if you choose - but you'll be gimped on crutch points compared to most in that setting.

    good luck

I'm not really sure which class I want to play. Why I asked for advice on a race/class combo for a beginner. I understand there's a big update coming, and some classes have a higher learning curve than others. I lieu of all that, what would be a good starting point other than a PvP oriented guild? I'll start looking for one of those.

I do have some CP <200 on a pve sorc. I still haven't decided on a class yet.

Well, best advice i can think of for all classes are the following:

    1. Crit resist is a very important part of PVP that isn't in PVE since monsters don't crit,. Easy sources of crit resist are armor with impen as trait, and CP (i forget what it's called). While not the same for all classes, a good crit resist value should be around 2500 or more

    2. When you're starting out and learning your class, you can sacrifice some damage for more sustain, until you get used to the playstyle and then you can gradually reduce your sustain. By sustain, I mean magicka/stamina recovery depending if you're a mag or stam toon.

    3. Know your offensive and defensive rotations. In PVE you have rotations that last like 8 seconds that you do again and again to do optimal damage. In PvP on the other had, you still have rotations, but they're more of skill combos because they aren't as long as regular pve rotations. Since you mentioned you have a sorc, an example would be holding your crystal fragments proc instead of firing it away asap to wait until your haunting curse explodes. That way they hit at the same time and you deal more burst damage. Your defensive rotation on a magsorc would be casting 2 shields on top of each other when you get low on health.

PC NA. I seem to always gravitate towards a ranged playstyle in MMOs. Although, I enjoy playing just about anything.

Caster type. I've tried bow in ESO, but I have a hard time sticking with it. Maybe because I haven't learned to properly play it.

bow is harder than one would think. @DDuke has extensive info/knowledge on bow builds.

caster types can be done on most classes. Destro staff is a powerful weapon.

For ranged casters there are three good choices:

MagWarden - good self healing, good aoe. Okay defense.

Magtemplar - more tanky playstyle, more of a ranged and melee hybrid

Magsorc - your standard caster stereotype
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:

I think I'm gonna play around with Templar and Warden. I'll do some Google searching for guides to research the classes.

Also you need to practice while someone is constantly cutting your internet on and off to simulate lag ... Because thats what you do in this game in PVP. Just jump in a group of 48 and it does not matter what you wear just put AOE abilites on your bar because they are the only ones that will work in heavy lag. Jump in a group of 48 and lag the rest of the server out, thats my advice.

Templar and Warden are both good choices as damaging classes. I see one Templar who does well, SUNFIRE or something like that.

I’d recommend to start off tanky:
5x light plus 1 med, 1 heavy if your undatuned is maxed. 5x light 2x heavy if not.

Optimal is to have your chest heavy. Use the monster set for the medium piece. If you’re using two light sets heavy helm and medium shoulders. Basicly the heaviest weights should be on your chest, helm or legs because they give the most resistances, with the preference being chest.

Maybe 5x fortified brass, 5x bright throat or spinners. Blood spawn monster set. All traits impenetrable, all protective traits on jewelry.

For Templars and wardens use reach on the destro line plus:
Templars: Total Dark, Breath of Life, Ritual, Spears, Sweeps
Warden: Permafrost, the ability that absorbs projectiles to heal you, the healing skill that ports you to a team mate to get around, shalks

Those are the core skills, rest is preference. Usually either destro/resto or destro/sword and board. Both are good choices because those classes have good self healing. If you have the staff that boosts destructive reach from pve use it.

You can go with any of them in low level pvp especially. While you are learning how pvp combat goes just use 5 fortified brass 5 julianios or shacklebreaker and then 2 torags pact. That way you get lots of stats all around and you can stay in fights a bit longer so you learn what you are doing.

Yea, this is true. In beginner pvp just using all impenetrable and healing yourself every once in a while puts you ahead of most players.

Play whichever class or race you like, PvP has no meta.

Join groups at the start or even make a group if no-one is inviting, leading is a good way to learn. Most alliances have a casual but co-ordinated guild that accept newer PvPers that can help especially in Vivec. If you can't get a guild you can ask in PvP /zone or in trade/social guilds for advice. People will help.

CP and <50 PvP is a lot more forgiving than Sotha Sil no-CP campaign so go to those if you want a cushion at the start. Above c300 is fine for Vivec/Shor.

Download cyrHUD add-on and Kill Counter to help you keep in touch with the map especially for times when you can't get or don't want a group.

You will die a lot and a bit less as you mature, we all die often. So don't be shy to die.

Make sure you have a heal or two and an execute.

Gear just depends on your playstyle and what you want/like to do but wear at least 4 impenetrable for those pesky nightblades unless you are a pesky nightblade then go full divines imo.

You will make the most AP when you are having fun... If its the Alliance Skill tree you are going in for then battlegrounds is the fastest way but a bit hectic, Cyrodiil is a more relaxed pace.

Fun is the key though, good luck

Go to a game that doesn't change the entire combat system every update. It's not worth it
