It's immersive, and it's a gold sink. Every game needs little things like this to make it engaging. You take away every little thing and you end up with current WoW, a dumbed down game that has been stripped of all its substance and it's only being kept alive by addicts.

    This is the truth.

WoW Classic will be released later this summer, and people who never played that long ago, or have forgotten, are going to be in for a surprise of all the details that have been deleted from the beginning of WoW until now.

Yup. To all those jonesing for WoW Classic.... I started there. It was AGONIZING running everywhere for 40 levels. And yeah, the repair fees.... if I hadn't had a good RL friend who give me a bunch of gold to start, I'd have never got to 40. I paid him back, with interest.... and I paid it forward to my sister, her son, my daughter, her husband, and both g'daughters.

Only sis plays any more. The rest of us got WAY burnt out long before WoD.

Same reason why it costs gold to port somewhere...to change your outfit...dye your equipment...listing fees...half of the sale fees...mount training fees...etc...etc... to take gold out of the economy...

When role playing it certainly adds to the immersion, also like others said, it keeps inflation in check among many other things combined.

Its a money sink most MMO's have repair costs for gear.

I have no problem with it, it make players stop and check their gear once and awhile before doing group content. Helps encourage them to make sure they have everything they need before doing a dungeon, it can be annoying when players forgot soul gems, food/drinks/repair kits when they are in a dungeon.

It forces players to actually plan ahead for what they need.

That said since doing daily crafting writs I haven't paid a gold coin on repairs in months.
