We are currently investigating issues some players are having logging into the European PC/Mac megaserver. We will update as new information becomes available.
Not really and being a private company they are not required to. They have not even indicated how many active players there are, to the best of my knowledge. Companies that can estimate active players can not do that well with ESO since trading is decentralized.

"I am a nightblade. Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."
The only population hint I've seen is very generic; that the total game population is mostly evenly split between platforms, with the EU megaservers more favouring PC. I've not seen anything about subscriber numbers, but I'd wager it's about split as well, but it's purely anecdotal.
"It is a lovely language, but it takes a very long time saying anything in it, because we do not say anything in it, unless it is worth taking a long time to say, and to listen to." - Treebeard
They don't give numbers, only give out number of accounts and that's not exact.
@Turelus - EU PC Megaserver "Don't count on others for help. In the end each of us is in this alone. The survivors are those who know how to look out for themselves."
Only the bean counters at Zos have that data. Since subs are optional, they can't really be used to determine the longevity or health of the game, if that's what you're wanting to speculate about.
Since we have addons, does anyone ever tried to collect this data like with crates addon?
You don't need to check everyone to get a close number of percentage of ESO subscribers.
They don't really release numbers, unless they are behind enough smoke-screens to obscure actual playercount numbers.
Thy let us know how many total purchases had been made a while ago (a couple years ago maybe?), and you can pull data from Steam/steamcharts, but that's about all we have to work with.
