CAN I TRANSFER MY ESO ACCOUNT AND CHARACTERS BETWEEN DIFFERENT PLATFORMS?
Updated 01/03/2019 09:12 AM
We have not built, and do not plan to build, the capability to move individual characters from platform to platform. We were only able to move characters in bulk for consoles once on June 1st, 2015 because the database tables we copied to were brand new (empty). Now that the database tables are filled with other data, the techniques we used before no longer work.

It’s not that they don’t want to do it, they’re greedy arses see the dollar signs in it. It’s because they CAN’T. Every time this gets brought up the official answer is usually along the lines of ‘its not possible, the console transfer was a one time thing because it was a fresh world’. I believe them when they say that, because if they could do it, they would of done it by now with some outrageous, criminal price attached to it.

I call BS on "they can't do it". It's a database integration. It gets done all the time, and got done when consoles launched. It may be more complex now, but any conflicts could be resolved given enough resources.
They won't do it because it's not in their interest. Either the work required means it would be so expensive that few people would pay for it and the operation wouldn't break even, or they want people to stay in whatever server they began to avoid mass migrations e.g. from PC-EU which is having extreme issues for months, or they want people to have to start fresh if they want to move to a new server so they'll be motivated to buy "convenience" items such as riding lessons, XP scrolls, crown motifs, etc. I don't believe the "it's impossible" answer until someone demonstrates why that is.
I'd like to see this, but also just don't care #PCMASTERRACE

It got done because the Console character database was a clean slate. They explained how it cant be done to a library that already has data in it.

As a software architect, I can tell you that in software terms 'impossible' means too much effort for too little gain. This will have been considered and found to meet that criteria. It may be doable, but there isn't business need enough for it to be done that outweighs cost and effort. Also requires buy in from other platforms.
Edit to clarify last sentence
At console launch it was beneficial to platform owners (Sony and Microsoft) to transfer players from pc as this directly impacted their early population and adoption rates, and was beneficial in business relationship for ZoS. There is no business benefit for those platform owners to lose players to PC, and negatively benefits a business relationship for ZoS to offer it. Years after launch, ZoS has no high yield or immediate business gain in transferring new or existing players to console platforms. Regardless of how complex the data model or ORM mechanism is from data to application, this is a fundamental consideration for such a move. The technical aspects are weighted against that.

Except there is no business loss. Game is already paid for on the console. Money made. Eso plus is directly to zen regardless of if you're paying it on console or pc.
Transfers would mean *more* business - you have to re purchase game + anything else on the new platform + pay for transfer.
To me this is more petty than anything. They made a statement and hoped it would be the end of the community request for transfers, but it's only gotten larger and now they're pissy that people keep asking. It's a poor response to a substantial portion of players making a suggestion/request.

I'm hoping they add crossplay/cross progression once the new generation of consoles is here. They already have 4K they need more features to sell the game again.
