Is it possible to DPS properly with higher ping?

It is possible, just more difficult and requires work.
I'm on 300-400 ping and can do 35k on mag sorc and 40k on stamblade without vma weapons. (Dummy tests)
If the lag is constant its not too bad, the problem is when its fluctuating. Also weapon swaps and skills start failing to fire above 350.

There are some exceptional players on high ping who can allegedly hit high numbers. They are rare and not representative of average players.

I can only speak for myself though. I am an average veteran player IMHO;

My ping usually sits at ~350ms (+/- 30ms.)

Unassisted, no VMA weapons.
320-380 ping - 25k DPS
250-300 ping - 35k DPS. (With Mudfish VPN)

Points to note for higher ping:
Skills often do not fire on keypress.
Bar swap might not happen on key press.
Red AOE damage while outside the red circle.
Blocking but server not recognising it in time, so no block.
Light attack weaving having a much slower cadence to make sure the light attack fires between skills.

Yup. That's exactly what I have experienced. The good luck is appreciated, but it ain't gonna fix it. Then again, I love where I live, crap satband notwithstanding, so not moving into the city. Not to mention I couldn't sell this place without putting more into it than it's worth *sigh*....

My ping in a good day is around 250, spike to 300 now and then. My best is 50k on magblade self parse, no orb. 47-48k is more consistent. Thats with siroria + zaan + parse food. With a more realistic gear like MA or BSW + grothdar or skoria and witch mother brew, its still above 40k.
Of course its in a good day when spike occasionally happen. In a bad day when ping is 350 - 450 spike to 999+, I just don't parse or dungeon/trial. These happen 2 or 3 days a month average. Living in South East Asia, exactly half way around the world to the server.

I wouldn't say those people are anymore rare then good players in general, my Oceanic guild plays at 380ms ping and everyone can hit over 50K self buffed.

It's a L2P issue.

You've got to time the physical button pressing slightly differently and a bit slower but 50K is ez.

Just hit 40.9k stam sorc AY/Rele/Storm fist self buffed, no raid buffs/debuffs. Just using lava foot soup to simulate better sustain from lack of synergies/orbs. That’s bouncing between 270-310 ping.

South African here.. Getting high dps with high ping has never been a problem, it all depends on the player of course.. "The higher the ping, the lower the dps" is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while.

Good dps is relative.
DPS over 15k requires time, patience and dedication.

The more you practice your dps - the better it will become.

But I thought we aren't talking about skill/rotation practice/gear/cp. Assuming everyone has the same skill set BUT a different ping, would they get the same dps numbers?

Lets say if I'm pulling 42k with 250 latency, would it improve if my ping was under a 100?

I have friends playing from NZ hitting 40k+. So long as your ping is consistently bad is doable provided you put in the necessary practice.
Playing on NA servers from EU and on wifi my ping varies from 190 to mid-200s and I'll still hit 45k up to low 50s on most of my toons too.

100% you can! I have played with 250/300 ping since day 1 due to distance and all my dps toons can dps for more than 45/50k in dummies and 60/70/80k in trials.

And many friends I know can pull the same numbers and even more than me.

It is VERY possible.

While I partly agree, it’s a cop out too. High ping isn’t a legitimate excuse for most people.

Check the numbers that good players from EU do while playing on PTS...with 250 ms ping you can still do a lot of deeps!

High ping? Yes

Erratic high ping? Not really

You can compensate for and get accustomed to input delays, you can’t compensate for variable mistimings that come an unstable connection

To me It depends on the player and their ability to adapt to their connection. I play xb1 - na from australia (no idea my ping for eso but it is absolute trash. Skills not firing etc or running around for 3-4 secs "dead") and im pulling 50k stamblade and magplar and i put it down to muscle memory, knowing the rotation so well i could do it with my eyes closed and also how to continue it with lag spikes in trials.

Edit: i should add that these are trial based set ups. Not cheesed through CP or sets.

Just to be clear to DPS you press LA and a skill. Thats 2 key presses a second. If your KPS is 130MS then you're pressing 7-8 keys a second. You might just want to stop bashing your keyboard?

You can, but you need the best gear. My ping is always 250-300 with lots of higher spikes in PvE. In Cyro its 350+ with lots of spikes. You cant "weave" as they call it with any consistency. Some skills you have to present the button multiple times before they will actually go fire.You wont have top dps but you can keep it pretty high depending on your gear and experience.
