Roll dodge question

So the other day I encountered an all to familiar problem. In vet fg hm while rolling out of the aoe I was absolutely 100% out of the aoe and knocked dead. I was at least 95% complete on the roll dodge animation. Does the roll dodge have to be 100% complete before the aoe pops to have any effectiveness at mitigating these attacks? Also had this happen in hel ra, scp, and other places.

    Never try to dodge roll out of undodgeable AoEs. Walk out of them. Mechanically dodge roll is a teleport between A and B with "dodge frames" in the middle. You are not actually moving during the animation.

    Other than Lag related issues, much better to walk/run/sprint out of Red as above.

    Now, this means as soon as you see Red, your moving, not firing off one more skill just cuz. Also if your having issues seeing the Red, you can change the color to something like Pepto Bismal Pink in the game options and it really helps to see when to move.

    Knowing the mechanics and tells of the boss helps to as you can be moving before you need to. And, in that case a Dodge Roll can work.

    Yeah, got the pepto. Usually do run out but got caught off guard. It did that aoe twice in like 5 seconds, charging in to melee and oh ****.

    Lag is always an issue ps4 na, didn't seem to bad at the time though.

    Are these attacks dodgeable? Should they be? Are they supposed to be but aren't? Dodge is supposed to be medium armour's mitigation.

    A decent number of AoEs bosses throw at you are undodgeable. It is intended. I assume to prevent dodge roll being the answer to every single mechanic in the game. It might be one of the mitigation tools but some mechanics require different approach.

    Assuming that is the case, undodgeable, the fact that the animation wasn't complete caused the aoe to hit even though I was outside area of effect.

    There are already plenty of mechanics in the game that are undodgeable. Last boss hel ra lightning, shield phase first boss maw. The difference being these don't one shot you, or hit so hard you can't block through it. To be forced to run out of it seems a little screwy to me.

    If the confused can't figure out that I am outside of the aoe, the program is broken is it not? I might test later if I can roll into aoe and survive assuming animation is not complete when aoe hits. Assuming teleport thing I will survive.

    If roll dodge isn't viable I've got way to much cp in cost reduction
