Time Zones on ESO

Why wouldnt ESO be using SERVER TIME like WoW for example? Not comparing games, but it works very good for 100 times bigger playerbase, why wouldnt it work in ESO. Im tired of 10 time zones (including US) and figuring out if some country infact does not use summer time and crap like that. Lets face it, 99% of people do not remember from head differences between EDT, CET, CEST and such.

Funny enough, WoW's server time is based on location of certain hubs. I.E wyrmrest accord, moonguard and Emerald Dream server's time are identical to Blizzard's Texas Headquarters. Which is central time.

So still the same effect in the end.

I don't disagree with OP, but how would putting NA servers on CDT and EU servers on CEST help our Aussie and Kiwi friends, let alone players in India or Saudi Arabia?

ZoS is doing better at providing reference time for UTC... but everyone has to calculate local time.

Isn't there a software widget that would convert and display local time on the game client? Especially for Announcements and Events?

Steve Jobs would find a way.

Game are very global. Both server locations have players from all over the continent. So what time zone is chosen is very irrelevant.

Being that we have players from pretty much every continent on both servers and many players play on both servers it seems having a constant works well.

However, I do think the daily resets and such should be more in line with local times the servers are located but that is not tied the server time. It can be set where Zos chooses.

In WoW, on EU theres only EU server time.

And I suspect its same in America. It doesnt matter which time the reference time is, as long as its constant where everyone can compare their country

It's not that hard to extrapolate local time from what ESO gives: UTC + ET (US) time. Honestly, people in the US seem to have the most issues figuring out time comparisons. I'm lucky, daughter lived in Germany from 1992 to 2010 so I got used to having a second clock in windows. I still use it - I set it to UTC, and if I'm a bit foggy about something going on with the servers, I check the UTC clock. It's not rocket science.

Did you really came to this thread to show off that you know time zones better than me? Please stop posting now.

That is why ESO is using UTC. The time is constant and each local timezone is either + or - hours from it.
CEST is UTC +2. CET is +1
(acronyms for Central European Time and Central European Summer Time)

Those who do not know their timezone in relation to UTC are possible those living in caves, as is something taught at school on the significant majority of the countries. And especially in Europe, Africa and Asia when borders with neighbouring country have different timezones and the population moves around often.

True my father even at his 75 didn't had a clue, but our generation or 40-50 year olds do have a clue. And younger generations are used to it because they make friends globally.

Heh. Husband at 84 absolutely doesn't have a clue. But I at 71 DO have said clue because I have clients in various countries and TZs. Not to mention that it's really easy to handle UTC using windows clock. And.... I have to say that daughter (your age range) is not so good at TZs. I think it's just that she doesn't think it matters much.... and for her, it doesn't.

Not to mention, she still thinks all time should be military time. I'm not sure I disagree.... It would definitely simplify stuff. Well, it would for some of us....
