Templar question

Is it reasonable to have a Templar who has ranged damage via a bow, and then can close in with a sword and shield for close up damage? I assume I would concentrate on stamina for my level ups? Thanks for any help

Sure. After all Stamina Templar spammable is bitting jabs.
As long as you learn to apply the dots from bow (endless hail, poison injection), and blazing spear
(if you get caltrops add that also), switch to S&B and continue.

Mind though do not equip the taunt skill from S&B if you do not want to tank. You can use the shield charge to close the gap and (LA + bitting jabs) x 2-3 before switch to bow to re-apply the dots

Might reduce your dps given the less weapon damage, but you should be ok :)

As ZOS developers have said. Play as you like :)

Sword and shield is not the best choice for melee damage, but you should be fine even so.

You'll be a lot stronger if you do enough PvP to level up to Rank 6 in the associated skill lines, specifically for the skills Vigor and Caltrops.

I just want to play the game. I spend too much time rethinking my characters and no time playing. As short as my attention span is, I'll probably never see end game anyway. I realize maybe that's not how a MMO is supposed to be played, and that people spend a ton of time and effort to make their characters as strong as possible, but I just want to have some fun and an escape from reality for awhile. Thanks for the tips.

Just play the game then and use what works for you.

ESO doesn't have "end game" content as the whole game is "end game".
If you mean trials, you can access them even at level 1, if a guild can carry you through. (yes are many especially on NA server where the community is friendlier and take level 5 new players to normal difficulty trials). Hell you can simply walk and get into one on your own. You won't be able to do them, as are designed for 12 people, but that doesn't stop you.
But believe me for many after couple of runs they are boring as hell (they are only 6 of which 2 are smaller than the local delve), and not the cup of tea also.

You can play 97%+ of the game, solo casually as you have done if you played Oblivion, Skyrim or Morrowind.
And that's is over 2000 hours. And if you wish to play like that, I would advice you to have a look at Sherman's Gaming website.

The guy is great to give you ideas how to play solo, even content the "most powerful meta build players" cannot do on their own.

As wrote before, play the game as you like. You picked the best class to build a great solo cookie cutter character. :)

If you are on EU server, pm me on the forums to contact ingame to assist you :)
