Account Wide Achievements

Not sure if a thread exists or if this has been answered already.

Account wide achievements, is this being worked on or at least thought of? If not then just say so.

Whenever I create a new character I always feel like I've wasted time on one character or another in the past. It would be great if some, if not all, of the achievements can be made account wide.

Nothing official has been stated either way. The debate on the forums is animated to put it lightly. Bout 50/50 for and against.

I personally don't care about the non-pvp achievements being account wide, but I think you still need to grab skyshards lorebooks, and titles for each character.

I don't see a problem with some of them being account wide. But I think most make more sense being Character based

There are many things I think should be account wide.

1) Achievements that are not clearly character feats. Character feats such as Title achievements. People that want to keep achievements character side only, can still rely on titles to distinguish their characters.

2) Prologue quests, they are really just advertisements for the real content to come. Have a menu under the stories panel, that lets you 'deem complete' on any prologue quest that has already been completed on any other character.

3) Search and find quests, it would be nice if they were sync'd up. Meaning I can find the thieves guild treasures among all my thieving toons, so they all contribute to filling the coffers of the thieves guild.

It's something to look into if one toon achieves the achievement why shouldn't all of them have it it's something to consider.

It really depends on how you perceive the world space.

Some people like to play as though each character is the protagonist in their own right.

I personally prefer the idea of all my toons being a 'fellowship' of sorts.

This. I would be perfectly happy with this.
I can already wear my skins and personalities I've achieved through trials and challenges, let me have the titles and be able to link crap too on an alt if someone wants to know if I've completed something or not without having to screenshot or log over.

THIS SO MUCH and yes, it's been covered in forums MANY times but ZOS doesn't seem interested. Some achieves should obviously remain toon specific but most could and I think should be account wide

All else should be toon specific, shards, books , etc...

I don't think this will ever happen, not because I don't want it to, but because achievements are likely linked to quests in some manner, and by making achievements account-wide, wouldn't they thereby make quest completion account-wide?

I personally don't like the idea of someone being able to create a new character, and have access to all the hard work they've done on another, like titles and whatnot. Not to mention, this kind of stuff can allow people to misrepresent themselves... a new char running around in below-level-50 pvp with a grand overlord title. There's something special about having earned achievements on a specific char with a specific class and faction.

I do think some sort of account wide compromise needs to be implemented. Some things won’t work like the skyshards and such. But the whole reason many people wanted class change tokens was so that they can “complete” the game (achievement hunting) without having to jump characters and level alts because they’re attached to their main. This camp includes me- I don’t want to level alts to do things that would be much harder on my first character. It’s extremely difficult to be a completionist without some sort of account wide system. And that is a very valid concern, because why are achievements there if not to complete them?

See you gain the achievement right after (coding wise ofc..ig its maybe 0.1ms, so you dont notice it) you completed the quest
This should be a one way connection. So you gain the achievement when completing the quest.
So if you already have the achievement on your account, the quest dude doesnt kniw that still lets you do the quest, but cant reward you with the achievement, cause you already got it

Coding wise for quest achievemebts its doable.
Same for all PVE Achievements....dxcept the nature hunter crup.
There its bound to an Item which drops and gets char bound -> solution, make does items only accountbound, so you can transfer them via bank.

PVP (for me the main reason for accountwide achievements) is a bigger problem...there the rank are very highly rated, and ppl will not approve of an accountwide pvp rank (dunno why)
The skilline could be tetached from the ranking system entirely (so the grind is still real -.-) but you wont instantly have skillines maxed

People complain that we would see lvl 3 players with the Grand Overlord title, but you can already use the grand overlord's brass dye on characters who didn't complete the achievement. People complain that we would see lvl 3 players with the Stormproof title but you can already use the maelstrom baron polymorph on newly created alts.

I'm sure that there are other similar examples so idk what I'm missing here.

YES PLEASE !!! im sick of being tied down to my main toon when i have 8 alts. Simply because there is too many achievement in this game and i dont have the time to do it multiple times on multiple toon. Mainly PVE achievements.

With Skyshards changes incoming, maybe they could be convinced to make more collectibles-achievements shared? So i'll join yer cry with a YES! Shared achievements, pretty please! To send my *main* on a new epic adventure each time some DLC arrives is maddening! I'd prefer to make a new Hero but i cannot, because achievements

The skyshard thing they are doing isn't actually account wide skyshards.
It has more in common, I suspect, with how template characters on the PTS are granted skyshards.
Except on live, you will have to have collected them on one character in order to purchase the unlock for an alt from the crown store.
That is a far cry from account wide skyshards.

With regards to the OP, I am not in favor of account wide achievements.
I get why people would want them, and I don't necessarily agree with some of the stated reasons against them. I do however value the accomplishments of individual characters, and I feel it would cheapen the work I've done on my main if his achievements were applied to my other characters. It would also eliminate goals I may set for those characters, as the achievements would have already been completed.

I agree with Earrindo, there are too many that don't make sense. For instance, why would my Dominion hero be a covenant hero and a pact hero? Anything with titles, especially PVP titles would need to be excluded.

That said, I'd see nothing wrong with a separate "account achievement" tab that showcased all the achievements your various characters have collectively accomplished.

Genuine question though: how does not having this prevent some from making a new character? Is it the platform achievement (xB gamerpoints for example) total that bugs the completionist?

I really don't see why it isn't a thing in the game. would be great to have like a kind of log, that just displays how many achievement points you have on your account out of the maximum, with a toggle to show account wide and then per character.

Obviously titles and ranks should be per character, but it would be nice to see what you've actually done on your account from the achievement menu itself. I mean skins are account wide, why isn't the achievement? (arbitrary points that do nothing to give an advantage).

Just my 2 cents, It's probably time..

Yes account wide would be great. Especially because of bugs and now can't complete some achievements on a character. Looking at you precursor target dummy.

This is the only thing in game that makes me not create alts. If they did this I would likely still be playing currently, as opposed to taking a break.
