THE POOR CYRODIIL TOURIST

As a person who plays both PVE & PVP, I'm tired of people complaining about each other. You can absolutely do both things, and if you don't want to (ex. you don't like pvp) then don't do it!!! Same for pvpers that want to get vDSA weapons like dual wield / bow or trial weapons but they don't want to parse on a dummy to do more than 10k dps and don't want to craft divines gear. If you don't want to get impen gear and put CPs into crit resist and have at least 25k health then don't go into Cyrodiil!

This event is supposed to be about everyone, it is inclusive because it has
      1. a week for crafters
      2. a week for pve'ers with dungeons & trials
      3. another week for pve'ers with world bosses and delves
      4. a week for pvpers with Imperial City / Cyrodiil / BGs
      5. and a week where congratulations you get to pick whatever you want to go do event boxes.

I normally criticize ZOS for many many things but honestly even if I find the events exhausting, it appears they have tried to appease everybody for this one. Oh, and the motifs from boxes can be had in guild traders and through the event merchant. Lots and lots of things are absolutely wrong and bugged and scuffed in Cyrodiil, but this event is not one of them. Even the mechanics of earning tickets for Indrik mount / pet / motifs is simple - just eat the cake and enjoy that ESO's been around for another year. And yes, I think it's sad having only 2 events for PvP and all the other events for PvE. If we're being real here, majority of content has been PvE with no new zones for PvP and one DLC for PvP (imperial city) which still requires a chunk of questing. This game was marketed originally with the tri-faction war as important and with lots of promises for Cyrodiil. Right now it's a loading screen horse riding simulator, with zergs and at the moment some PvE visitors until the boxes stop coming.

      Strange how things change...

Surely, surely there is something that can be done to minimize the pure toxic behavior during a festival where there is an influx of the "Cyrodiil Tourists"?

Previously serious PvP players would, in general, let questers be, especially around quest hubs but omw how different it is this time during the anniversary event.
BUT WITH THIS EVENT groups of 30+ gankers wait in ambush or harass players who are completely out of their depth and all they do is give someone who might have thought about joining the campaign war a firm resolution to never do so.

      IDEAS:
      - Placing a circle of sanctuary around quest givers similar to what players have when going through a door in Imperial City.
      - Lower the AP value to almost nothing around the Cyrodiil towns for the duration of the event.

Thoughts, experiences, ideas, suggestions to desalt Cyrodiil for the period of the event?

      Admin please...

I'd be okay with the Sanctuary Idea, if it was a buff of some kind. Sort of like a flag that you can take that would remove the sanctuary for your faction. Make it a pvp objective. The sanctuary would be the reward for gaining the objective.

Which is why sanctuary around the quest giver would work, the town would still be strategic and capturable as a respawn point but questers would at least be able to take and hand in quests.

No fight is fair. And often most, if not all fights are one sided. It isn't dictated that these encounters would be fair and honorable on equal ground and agreement.

You either pick it, or someone picks it for you, your job is to use every means available to you that is provided to survive (fight or flight) so that you can complete your tasks while in Cyrodill, be it getting from point A to B, Skyshard Hunting or the Event dailies.

Sure, it sucks, and a pain cause no one likes to see their characters die, but in the end. No matter how many excuses or arguments people try to dance around the burning bush to fit their own narrative be it for or against what ever hot topic it maybe; in the end when it comes to pvp; there is and will be one unchanging rule; pvp problems have pvp solutions.

Solution - Only drop reward boxes on the real PvP dailies at the gate and not the town dailies.
Then everyone is forced into PvP activities and turn ins are safe at the gate.

True. But there's an awful lot of people who don't know that - because they don't read the forum.... If I hadn't been reading this forum for over a year, I wouldn't have a clue.

I think the percentage of people who use a game forum like this one is probably less than 5% of the active player base. In fact, I have five good IRL friends who play this game - and only one of them posts or reads here even semi-regularly. The others? They would have no clue about next week's "hardware update" had I not told them.

I suppose I'm rather anomalous. The FIRST thing I do with a new game is start reading the forum.

@marius_buys - "quest-blockettes".... I had this sudden vision of the Rockettes in their signature "uniform" doing their leg-kicks, busting chops on pvp griefers! *goes off for wine, laughing hysterically*

Personally took revenge the last few days, against all those who say "Fire glyph is overrated, not needed", when I am with my healer or tank in vet dungeon, and the DDs getting one shotted by a boss.

I am impressed there were no calls to nerf Fighter Guild abilities yet. Seems if you are a Templar, doesn't matter if you kill them. But there are cries if you are a Sorc or NB. :D
Surely, surely there is something that can be done to minimize the pure toxic behavior during a festival where there is an influx of the "Cyrodiil Tourists"?

You do realise many "peaceful tourists" are trying to gang together a lone "tourists" from enemy alliances when they see the opportunity for an easy kill yes? I was nearby today seeing blues and reds "tourists" attacking a loner AD who went for a quest, wandering too far into enemy territory.

Do you expect the AD PVP group will let them go by ignoring the plea of help from it's own alliance members? Of course not. We wiped both reds and blues and hunt them down.
That's normal as I do not expect from Reds or Blues to show any forgiving if that happens to their own members.

Is a warzone for the best part of 5 years, and this is not the first time such event occurs in Cyrodiil.

It's interesting--almost entertaining--to see how many PvPler here think that they're somehow superior to PvEler. That's not just pitiful, but definitely wrong. You're different at best.

I'd like to see those of the PvPler here who pound their chests, together with my group in a veteran DLC dungeon. I assume that it would be rather entertaining in most cases, just not for them.

      Two misconceptions:
      • First, no PVPer here has claimed to be superior to PVEers. Although quite a lot are amused or sarcastic about PVEers going into a PVP zone and then complaining about being attacked by enemy players.
      • Second, every PVPer has done his share of vet dungeons just to reach the undaunted level he needs for PVP. Every higher ranking PVPer has farmed the vet DLC dungeons for monster helmets like Earthgore, Velidreth and the likes. Most have done the vet trials too for some of the best gear in the game. Many have done vMA and vDSA to farm the best weapons for PVP.

So your might be quite suprised how 'inferior' those dumb PVPers are when running through a vet dungeon with you and your buddies. You might even end up being carried by them.

*sigh* Okay, one last post from me and then I'll leave the forums, this is fruitless and not worth my time. The following quotes are the HARMLESS ones that are left, because the mods have already deleted the TOXIC ones.
"No, you chose to go into a PvP zone and you get farmed. Cry about it. Don’t like it? Don’t go into cyro"
"How to get through pvp event...with a sword."
"Say what now?!?! You got some sand in your crevasses and your entitlement's flaring up?"
"When you are in a PVP zone, everything is PVP. I don't care if you are just picking flowers, you're in a warzone and are not safe."

And secondly, again, I was NOT talking about PvPler in DLC vet dungeons, but about toxic and arrogant griefer from this forum in DLC vet dungeons. I could also argue that many (or some?) of those only got their gear and undaunted level because they paid a group of PvEler to carry them through the dungeons. We can't know that, neither you, nor me.

      Happy Easter Holidays. I'm off.

It is happening on the new maps too. Unfortunately the griefers are having a ball exploiting door lag. I am alliance ranked 41 on my PvP character who is specced as a healer so I thought I would go to one of the new event campaigns to do the box dailies and maybe help some new players out if there were groups running.

For 2 hours, 6-10 AD camped inside the barracks at Vlas just to gank players turning in quests.

This group laid down mines inside the door to damage/kill anyone trying to stealth in. They had pets at door to prevent players targeting them. Then they ult bombed with multiple dawnbreakers, if you survived getting through the other stuff. All this in addition to exploiting door lag. BTW, during this Vlas was blue. These AD left it blue as a honey trap.

It was clear they had no interest in doing the dailies or even any other PVP. They just farmed new to PvPers (and even the experienced ones) trying to turn in, until each player was worth almost zero AP. So they weren't doing it for AP. While they did this DC took Blackboot and had the last AD scroll. The rest of the map was nearly entirely blue apart from Bruma and one EP keep. So the the AD griefers had no interest in the campaign. DC had all the Emp keeps so they had no interest in Emping either. Basically they weren't interested in fighting or seiging or the campaign or even the title. All they wanted was to prevent people from doing their quests.

After doing quests I persuaded the DC to stop feeding them. Eventually as predicted, the AD came out of their coward hole. We fought them, used cold fire and some experienced PVPers with some DPS came, they wiped them and the AD cowards (who were pretty useless when facing even numbers) finally left. Only to repeat the same exercise at Cropsford ie bullying PvEers by hiding inside the houses. The map was still blue. We DC still had their scrolls. AD was still gated. But for these a-holes ganking PvEers and putting them off PvP for life was more fun than fighting proper PvPers or playing the map.

This is the fundamental difference between this event and the PvE one the week before.
      • The PvE one required you to actually play the PvE game.
      • The Crafting one required you to craft.
      • The PvP one does not require 'proper' PvP.

It is essentially PvE in a warzone. PvE players don't have to join up with genuine PvPer to succeed. Therefore they don't actually experience open field PvP in groups or solo. Nor do they experience seiging or being seiged. They just PvE until they meet a group of door exploiters like the aforementioned. Then they judge all PvPers by that standard. And zone chat and the forums reflect this. This isn't about L2P or Git Gud. This is just a really badly thought out exercise in encouraging a-holes to make people's lives miserable.

I think the devs forgot that the towns are on transit now. The doors to quest turn ins should be seige-able if they are going to repeat this exercise.

This is the worst PR exercise for PvP ZoS could have made, in my opinion.
But perhaps it was no accident. *places tinfoil hat on head*
