Would you change your character background if given the option?

Oh, misunderstood the question by not reading carefully first, thought this was about rp character background so I wouldnt understand why, as such things arent written down ingame.

I do like the idea of being to change that, but only really if one would be able to insert custom backgrounds from ingame screenshots. I would actually be looking around with much more focus on capturing beautiful sights if they wouldnt just disappear somewhere in the pile of the other 5000 screenshots in my library, if actually being able to display them in the character screen.

Wouldnt make much difference to me if I could choose between only a handful of options.

I don't look at character select long enough for something like this to be meaningful. They could just as easily give us a plain list on a plain background with no character preview at all and I'd be fine with it. Besides, imagine all the wonky glitches that could come from the game having to render any one of potentially dozens of different backgrounds. It would constantly have to check if you changed the background or not, whereas with it how it is now, nothing like that happens.

I don't trust ZOS enough to implement even the most simple of features without something exploding into flames >_>.

Yes, but don't you put that idea out there. I'm going to have to think about spending crowns on background packs some point in the future otherwise.

It would be nice to have some more options for the background.

Looking at the various comments in this thread I think the best thing ZOS could do is make 1 background for each environment/province and then let you choose which one is displayed for that character from a menu. It seems like everyone has their own idea of what would be appropriate, and one person's perfect choice would probably be totally wrong for other people. (For example someone suggested doing it by race but it would be weird for me to have my khajiit stuck with an Elsweyr background when she moved to High Rock years ago and hasn't been back since.)

I agree it's not a big issue, but if someone was able to put together backgrounds for the 'missing' areas (Morrowind, Black Marsh, Valenwood, Elsweyr, Highrock, and maybe Orsinium and the Clockwork City) I imagine it wouldn't be much more work to let us choose which one we see.

Heck yes. I've often wished you could change background, and use that screen (character + pet + mount + background) as a photograph staging area.

My favorite character select screen was from Sword2 aka Sword of the New World. The screen was a fancy parlor and as you created characters they would fill the parlor doing idle things like playing chess, looking out the window, reading etc.
