new to pvp

Stuck
Stuck
Hello!

i am new to pvp and really need some advice.
i am hitting other people for like 2-3k max with my abilities, while getting blasted for 10k+ by others. What i m doing wrong?

I am CP 220 and played on Vivec. I swaped to Sotha cause my guildies told me i am to low CP for Vivec.
My Gear is everything purple and CP 160 - i thought that was good? But people told me i need setbonuses. What are some easy sets to aquire for a noob like me? I only want to have some fun in pvp and maybe get a kill, after being killed like 100 times already.

i am playing a nightblade, tried magicka build (fire/resto) and respecced to stam build (2h/bow).

right now in cyro i open on a sorc with surprise attack 2,3k into some melee attacks and spam surprise attack. he blinked away, healed to full and blasted me with 10k frag and 10k meteor. please help :D

sounds like you need a boost to your crit resistance...

    what's you crit resistance at?

also, what is you weapon damage and critical weapon strike percentage at?

what gear sets are you using?

sounds like you wanna get up close and fight rather than sit back and spam snipe (good for you :))...in which case you may need more of a stamblade brawler build...

vivec is fine, even with low cp...you won't be able to 1v1 most folks, but, because the pops are higher you'll have more available targets to kill...

it just requires you to be a little more situationally aware (ie, don't get yourself involved in 1v1's or situations where you are outnumbered)...

you need to be selective of your targets - players whom already have their health bar low - or, you'll need to turn on the combat indicators (that displays an enemy health resource pool) and look for low health targets - sorcerers, and other nightblades...and, try to catch them off guard with your attack...

What is your race? Switching from mag to Stam isn't advisable with all but a few flexible races. As for sets, shacklebreaker and spriggan or spinners is easy to get and works fine. Go heavy, impen trait, gold weapons. Pick a monster set of your choice and you're good to go. Then just need to learn how to actually play the game...

    good advice from jawtunes...

your weapon damage will drop considerably "turtleing" up by putting on heavy, but, at least you won't have to get rezzed as much...

maybe go with 5 heavy, 2 medium, at least 5 of those pieces impenetrable, the other two can be infused on your large pieces (head, chest, legs)...

weapon wise - infused or sharpened will probably work okay...maybe go with some poison or defile enchants...

set wise: shacklebreaker and spriggans (if you wanna use 2H/bow - that means you're a stamblade)...7th legion and ravaged will probably work also...

monster set wise: velidreth, or some molag (1pc) kena/(1 pc) kra'agh's combo would be good for offense, and, troll king will help keep you alive...

I'd go with the warrior mundus to get back some damage from using a bunch of heavy armor...

make sure you quickslot potions, at a minimum you can use the siege merchant pots...

skill rotation wise - make sure you have a way to: buff, shield, heal, gap close, attack, execute...

try to practice escaping from bad situations...

once you get that portion of your build sorted out - go back through your cp allocation to make sure it supports and deficiencies in your build, or, enhances things you already do well at...

my progression in pvp for build and skill went from:
    1). how do I survive
    2). how do I sustain
3). how do I kill other players

your stats aren't terrible...but, they do have meaning...understanding what are acceptable stats for your build and style of play - takes a while...

now's a good time to gear up, as there is money to be made during the anniversary event...

I'm gonna guess you don't have a max crafter (which enables you to craft your own gear, upgrade the quality, and optimize the gear traits) - in which case, you'll need to do some serious guild trader (rawl'kha, elden root, wayrest, mournhold, belkarth) searching, and, you may not be able to optimize all your traits...

you can also reach out within any guilds you belong to locate a good crafter...crafting costs gold though, so, you'll need to ask how much it'll cost for some shacklebreaker weapons and armor..

point being - if you haven't started leveling in crafting - get busy :)

for the spriggans, you can simply farm: delve bosses, dolmens, world bosses, and, the public dungeon in bangkorai to get your spriggans gear...

if you can't craft or find a crafter, you can just use the 7th legion set which can also be found in bangkorai...

it might take a week of going through bangkorai to get most of the gear you need...

if you have some AP saved up you can check in on the golden each week to see what monster set pieces are available...it's quickest to buy shoulder pieces and just farm the head peice...

Guys! Guys! What are you doing? Why are you giving all these little pieces of advice? Do you really think that OP has enough experience and knowledge about this game and pvp to use your pieces of advice? No offence to OP but it seems that he doesn't even know what set bonuses are or hasn't known untill guildies told him.

    No!

Here is my advice dear OP:
    Do your research!
Go to YouTube and look for: "eso pvp Stamblade Build Wrathstone".
You will see some videos of many different builds.
They usually put at least a few minutes of gameplay with the build that is being presented.
For your first build choose the one that is the most tanky (not Heavy Armor though as it is often the worst armor in game).
You need to be tanky at the begining to survive long enough to learn something.

Gear sets will make a really big difference. I'm not entirely up to speed on Stamblade builds right now, but when you're first starting out I think you should probably try to build in at least a little survivability - you (probably) won't have the escapes down pat yet, and some people will be really good at countering stealth anyway.

With that in mind, I think using Fortified Brass (crafted) or Impregnable (Battleground reward) would be advisable. Both sets are available in all 3 armor types, and are bind on equip, so you can buy them from other players if you'd prefer (but don't try to use both at the same time, you'll have too little damage and sustain). You'll probably want to go with at least 2 heavy armor pieces (preferably chest/legs, depending on your monster set availability - more on that below), with the rest being medium. Your current resists of ~11k are extremely low, and everything is going to be hitting you really hard.

You'll also need to decide on a "Monster Set," which will almost certainly require doing some PvE, and cover your helm and shoulder slots. Some options to consider would be: Blood Spawn, Troll King, Velidreth (requires DLC), Stormfist, or Selene's. You can theoretically get any of these sets through spending AP at the Golden Vendor on the weekends, but it may take a long time before both the helm and shoulders that you want become available. It'd be better to run the pledges for Undaunted Keys (which will get you a chance at the shoulder slot), and run the proper Veteran dungeon for your helm.

As for your other set...I'm not entirely sure. An easy option - especially if you have crafting skills/traits - would be a set of Hunding's Rage. You could also go with Spriggan's for the penetration, but that could potentially be pretty expensive, depending on which pieces you end up getting.

this is actually not such a bad idea at all if you're dying a bunch right now...

go all medium, put together a couple of sets like marksman's crest and spriggan's thorn and try to get your stamina pool and weapon damage as high as possible...

zerg surf, try to stay back a bit from the crowd and snipe and poison arrow away to your heart's content...

if you can remember to use potions for weapon damage increase and use shadowy disguise in between your arrow shots - you'll hit players hard...

enemies and allies alike will hate you, but, you will kill other players, and, you won't die so much...of course folks will go out of their way to t-bag you a bunch...

but, who cares...the objective is for you to have fun - and, fun is most definitely killing others more than dying yourself...

Farm bone pirate, jewelry + 2 body pieces
Have someone craft you shacklebreaker for the missing pieces, 5 pieces total

Buy an agility maul, infused (best option, put a befoul glyph in it) or sharpened trait (if you use this option you should use some kind of poisons, the best ones are damage health IX).
Have someone craft you an infused (bis) or defending seducer bow, and enchant it with a glyph that increases weapon and spell damage.

For traits you want 5 impen, 2 well fitted. Never go below 5 impen, well fitted is up to you but it helps a lot with sustain in no cp.

Keep the jewelry robust for now (infused is slightly better but you need to learn how sustain first).

Enchants on the glyphs should be 3x weapon damage, recovery mundus (serpent). If you feel the recovery is not enough, swap the mundus to warrior and put 2x stamina recovery glyphs. You should be fine. Rule of thumb for no cp (for me at least): 2.7k recovery buffed with relentless but without pot is ok, above 3k is over sustain. If you have siphoning attacks, 2.3k recovery is fine. Above 2.6k is over sustain.

Bars: these bars are what a true melee 2h/bow nb runs. For all the other types of nbs plays I not gonna help, sorry.

2h: surprise attack, relentless focus, mass hysteria, rally, flex spot (I personally use leeching strikes, you can also slot executioner, killer's blade, ambush or evil hunter).
Bow: vigor, shuffle, shadowy disguise, poison injection, shadow image (this is you life saver, the strongest defensive skill nbs have. Learn to use it, trust me, it's what makes a good nb an unkillable nb).

Now, this is what you should copy paste imo if you are a pvp beginner, but please keep in mind that pvp is not a mindless, objective and repetitive gameplay like pve. Your build MUST MUST MUST MUSY adapt to your playstyle.

I leave you some useful links here, maybe you'll learn something. Please keep in mind that Sniker has the bis build for this patch for stamnb. Keep an eye out on his content when elseweyr drops, many things will change.

Grim hollow: not the best player, sub par builds imo, but he has clips and nice guides you can learn something from.

Sniker: my boi on pc EU. We test a lot of builds, making and breaking the meta. He was the first to release the spriggans shackle build, which, if you want some mag sustain, is the bis build atm, and the one I am still running. Check out his videos, you might learn something.

    Good luck.

Thats not true, people will come after archers so he will learn how to survive/escape, as well as get a feeling for PvP in general. And playing an archer in ESO isn’t quite so easymode as you make it out to be.
But bow is a bit more forgiving than melee for inexperienced players so he will likely have less deaths/more kills and a better overall experience.

To practice PvP I highly recommend playing battlegrounds rather than Cyrodiil.

if you're a stamblade, and get involved in any kind of siege activity (which cyrodiil is full of) - you're gonna want to have a bow, and use it...

good luck getting that agility maul to hit someone from 20 meters away...

great advice from the movie "the professional" - learn how to kill from distance, as you improve, then work your way in...

try not to spend too much time reading your own death recaps - work on your outside game first...
