Anniversary event week 2 experience

I was away from ESO for a couple of years, having played from early access until around September 2016, and came back just before the Witches Fest in 2018. Since then, it's been one event after the other, but in general I have enjoyed the activities and/or the rewards. Week 1 of the anniversary event was pretty good, considering I already do crafting writs on many of my characters even without the special rewards. However, the few days I've played of week 2 have annoyed the hell out of me.

Firstly, the system where you can only pick up one boss and/or one delve daily per zone might be interesting... if people were reliably sharing with others. While in many cases you can get quests shared, that is much more the case for world boss quests than delves, the latter only very rarely being shared. But in certain zones there are few or no people sharing quests at all, and even offering to share your own quests results in few to no replies. I don't know if this is because of low server population, low access to that particular DLC, or unwillingness of the players to share with others, but since the game doesn't exist in a vacuum my conclusion is that the system as a whole isn't working very well.

Secondly, I've experienced a number of antisocial behaviours from some players, such as large groups going at it with a highly-requested quest who then leave to turn it in and share with no one despite insistent requests by other players in zone or local chat, or solo players who ignore a group that is forming and waiting for other members and pull a boss, sometimes bringing it in the middle of said waiting group to force others to help. I realise these players are doing nothing illegal, but again, the game doesn't exist in a vacuum, so if some players cause grief and frustration, it should be on the developers' radar. Again, this tells me the quests aren't working well.

Finally, certain of these daily quests continue to have design flaws since they were introduced, especially those in Wrothgar, and specifically the quest Reeking of Foul Play (King Edu). Before I left the game in 2016 players already complained loudly about how few spawn points there were for the prisoners you need to release, as well as the excessive wait between respawns. If I understand correctly, this was addressed last year in a patch where the number of prisoners needed was reduced to 2 and the spawn timer decreased. Yet I've spent 5-10 minutes running between spawn points after killing the boss before I managed to rescue both prisoners. I don't think I'll ever do this quest again to be honest, the mind-numbing standing around or running between spawns waiting to get lucky was so frustrating.

If I may offer my opinion on this issue, I think ZOS should consider revising the daily quests so they are more widely shared (maybe adding some reward to sharing) and, where applicable, are less frustrating to complete. As it stands, once I get all my Lyris style pieces I don't think I'll bother with these dailies at all.

I don't know what platform you play on but I play on PC and haven't had any problems with quest sharing in any of the zones. If I request a share, another players always obliges me but, mostly, I haven't needed to request shares as zone chat is filled with "for whatever quest and share type X".

But, I am sorry that your experience has been different.

I was on PC-EU this afternoon, a Saturday, pretty much as prime time as it comes. Only managed to do 3 world bosses in Vvardenfell, all by sharing among a group that stayed together as each member picked up their own quests. Zone chat had few requests for sharing and even fewer offers. Went to Hew's Bane with a buddy and we only managed to do our 2 quests, there was no activity in zone chat at all apart from us sharing our quests (though I did catch a group doing Syvarra, asking in zone and local chat for a quest share didn't get a single reply). Wrothgar always has more boss action, so it's easier to get shares, but still you can't always get someone to share the ones you're missing. Summerset also had far more people requesting shares than people actually doing the sharing, and we didn't manage to do all world bosses, let alone delves.

PS4 NA is a share-fest everywhere. Zone text chat is scrolling so fast it's hard to keep up. As it has been in every Event in which quests can be shared going back several years.

I'd like to address a couple of OP's concerns:

    1) Sharing WB quests vs Delve Quests

There is a significant difference between these two categories of quests.

First, World Bosses drop large slot apparel as well as weapons, some of which are highly desirable and therefore valuable. Delve bosses only drop small slot apparel.

Second, World Boss fights are fun and, for many players, require group effort to defeat. Delve bosses require a dull slog through often lengthy tunnels, fighting mobs along the way. Nearly everyone can solo a delve boss.

Third, some zones are more popular and/or challenging than others. Wrothgar has a number of advantages over other zones, beyond the fact it has the most qualifying daily quests of any zones. The 'low population' OP describes in certain zones is due simply to the fact that Wrothgar is best.

    2) Failing to Share

I suspect the 'large groups' that OP has noticed in the vicinity of WBs are organized guild groups or groups of friends. They're busy doing their thing. Stop suspecting them of withholding quest shares from you out of spite.

    3) Starting Combat

If you are standing anywhere in the vicinity of a WB during a WB Event, you are in a combat zone. It's impossible to tell that a group of nearby players are ready, not ready, waiting of others to arrive, or picking their noses. Players will arrive, and if the Boss is ready, someone is going to start the fight whether you're ready or not, and that combat is probably going to roll over anyone just standing around.

And yes, it will look like anti-social behavior if you feel there should be some sort of universal ready-check of all nearby players. If you aren't ready to fight immediately, stay away. Get your group ready before arriving at a WB if that's what you need to do.

    3) Courtesy

I'm lumping everything else under this category. And it's not the definition OP expects. No one is obligated to share a quest. There are a few steps involved. It can be hectic to manage a sharing group. If you've done it, you know what I mean. Most people do not want the pressure, or the hassle, or are too shy. It is extremely discourteous to expect players to share quests with you. Pop your request in zone chat and wait patiently for a response. Maybe you'll get one. Maybe you won't.

But you can be damned sure that if you get 'insistent' with me, you will immediately go on my block list.

    4) Respawn Times

The quests are busy right now. No, really, the quests are busy right now. If you're running around trying to catch a spawn point for the 30 seconds it will be active, you are doing it wrong. That's the way it is. Tough luck.

    In short:

    Calm down
    Be Patient
The other players are not against you
Enjoy the fun of wildly populated zones.

I'm a mostly solo player with text chat turned off (because, good lord, does that go from zero to real weird, real quick). With alts, I've already got access to more quests for the event than I could feasibly complete in one day. No need for sharing.

The limit on dailies is likely intentional design. It stretches out the amount of time players are engaged with a zone's content. The ability to share quests, and get more rewards faster, is supposed to incentivize grouping up. If I want "reliable" sharing of every single quest, then I'd need to organize a group of friends or guildmates together.

Though, I definitely agree that it's super frustrating to compete with other players for quest items/secondary objectives.

you will always find some mean people online or people that are just having a bad day and letting it out on you...overall i think the eso community is pretty decent - the only mmo community ive found to be even nicer was gw2... I also think the amount of women in a game and the mature level of audience correlates strongly of how nice the community overall is...

Besides this, i only ever consistantly have negative experiences with one particular group of players (which i won't name as i don't want to start any flame wars)

I could do like 36 of these with ease per character if I wanted and had the time...

Why is it mean to not share a quest? I wouldn't call that mean.

It isn't mean. There is no obligation to provide others with more dailies than they can acquire for themselves. Nor should there be.

I've been enjoying the events...love the energy these events bring to the zones. I enjoy picking up my dailies and then starting up groups in zone chat..most players wait till everyone is ready. The key is to have a positive attitude. Sure you get the odd player that breaks their neck to get in first with everything but good luck to them...let the baby have its bottle.

There are too many positives to get stuck on the few negatives. The gift boxes are awesome.

I am sorry you have been having a hard time @ daemonios. Sometimes I have bad experiences and to be fair I'm the one who is in a bad head space at those times and things can annoy me more or overwhelm me. Things do get better. 😊

This happened to me yesterday - a guy asking for people to group with him for the Arena in Kvatch. I joined and asked politely for a quest share. More people joined, still no share. We finished the boss, only the group-maker had the quest to turn in - the rest of us had nothing. What is the point to this? Honestly, I will never understand humans if I lived to be millennia old!

RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.
