New and Not Improved Event has Increased the Time Increased the Grind Reduced the Fun

I will start out stating clearly this is my opinion/viewpoint on the change to the birthday event. For the first time since since i started playing ESO, they have actually managed to make me not want to even bother with logging in. I have no Issues with week one, Week 2 however is to me the biggest most labor intensive least fun grind i can imagine. In the time it takes me to cycle thru all my characters during week one of the event during week 2 with the same amount of time I accomplish far far less. I have chatted with guildmates and friends and the ones I talk to express similar feelings. Events can be a grind fest but week 2, I feel is nothing but a lackluster attempt to change the event and replacing it with and even more horrifying intentional grind fest.

It's more time consuming to get gift boxes this week for sure. That is why i'm only bothering on my main for this week.

On week 5 I plan to do the writs again, since that week we will get to choose what we want to do to earn the boxes.

I don't enjoy this weeks activities, so I just won't participate. The style pages have been going for really cheap in the guild stores, I'm also not overly bothered about Lyris' style and probably won't use it.

I don't understand why this would make you not want to log in. You are still free to do everything you would normally do if there was no event on?

They need to make it any delve, pub dung, and WB without daily quest, like the plunder skulls in the October event.

So... don't do it. It's optional.

There are 5 weeks of rotating options, choose your favorites. If it has something you want, do them. if it doesn't don't.

Well technically the last part of the event is week 5, which is ANY daily. You get to choose what you want to do.

Week 4 is the trials, but also includes dungeons.

Well I'm a treasure hunter, I'm amazed at how many folks just run past all the Urns and backpacks in delves without opening them, I usually get a motif from each delve, so this week is good fun for me. I would only do it on my main though. Some delve dailies don't seem to count, the Mages guild for example, also the DB assasination, I guess the smuggler's grove isn't a delve. Best ones are the Wrothgar dailies but you need to team up to get them all.

Part of me is torn i have my routine in game,what I do every day and then the shift in routine that events cause. Most of the events are a bit of a grind. That is part and parcel of an RNG based loot drop system. What concerns me the most is the ever creeping tendency of many of the current MMORPG's to follow the" korean grindfest/slog fest" ethos. Increase in grinding and increase in time burnt is not viewed well. Yes I have looked at the over all event and found the change lacking, I am not happy with the changes. I understand that changing the Event to be more inclusive of the entire spectrum of the player base is a good thing. I agree that the entire player base needs to be considered when even planning However. Increasing the grind is not a good thing.

What grind? It's optional. Optional. Do your routine. If you have FOMO about it, that's on you. Nobody is forcing you to do any of this.

Its a swing and a Miss, Missing the point that was pretty clearly stated, its not that I don"t want to do the event it is the fact that this years change in the structure of the event has massively changed the amount of "Grind" and not in the player favor.. the events are fun and i participate. I just prefer fun over a grind/slog fest.

Do the delve and world bosses that you need motifs for. They're dropping a lot from this event but if you dont have motifs like malacath, trinimac, dead water, elder argonian and morag tong, might as well kill 2 birds with one stone.

This is probably the 2nd worst event out of the 4 since I'm 99perc a pve player. Once its pvp, I'm gonna dread getting that style for the companion.

But I agree, this event compared to writs is horrible. Its slower, more work, and more frustrating. At least writs, I can open the writ boxes for gold mats, surveys and master writs. Those delve and world boss coffees, I hardly ever get motifs

I am just picking and choosing a few to do mostly newer dlc ones and undaunted of course; I recommend the elswyr starter dailies very interesting and different from all the ones we are always doing over and over.

play the way YOU want not the way ZoS or anyone else's!

What can you do to make this activity more enjoyable for yourself? Often, it is our own expectations that are the lion's share of the problem. How can you adjust yours?

Maybe you make it fun by admiring other players' outfits when you are doing the dailies. You'll encounter lots of players with interesting aesthetic tastes during events like these.

Maybe you make it fun by staying in-character and role playing. Voice act your character speaking their signature lines or battle cries when doing what they do.

Maybe you make it fun by taking your time and walking everywhere. The art designers of this game have made such beautiful scenery and taking the time to appreciate it is a joy.

There are lots of ways to make it enjoyable for yourself. If you cannot figure out how to do that, it's probably a good call to just give it a pass.

So don't do it. I'm not.

I just log in, eat my cake for the daily tickets, and then go on about my normal business. I will not feel like I lost out at all since Motifs and Style Pages really aren't important to me.

No one is forcing anyone to grind anything. If you don’t feel up to it, don’t do it.

Sure, you won’t get the boxes ... but most of those items can be found elsewhere.

I got 2 hours in last night instead of the usual hour. Ran multiple characters, didn’t get a single Lyris piece. I’ve given up on the rest of the event and will do other things in game with my available time.

I don't really care at this point about the event I do a delve or WB or 2 eat cake and do other things I have been getting crap RNG all last week so I'm sort of over the event 200+ boxes no worm motifs, no Ciphers its a shame the alchemy mats are nice got a few blueprints but I'm done.
