How many crates on average does one need to buy to get 400 gems?

I would assume allot 200$ + or more
This really depends on how much of the stuff you already have there is allot of stuff you cant turn into gems if you did not have it already such as mounts,pet,tattoos so so

I got a decent amount of the stuff and used from eso+ crowns to buy the 4 pack i got about 15-20 gems

Depends on what you get. You can be lucky and get that super sweetroll which you can exchange for 100 gems I believe. The banner goes for 33 gems. Otherwise if you get more normal stuff (potions, body markings repeatedly etc) around 40 crates if you just exchange potions into gems.

It depends. If the crate season is new for you, you'll have to through a lot of trash before you start getting a minimum of 8-10 gems per crate. I'd say that the number according to my experience is 40-60 crates.

If you get super lucky you can get a sweetroll tho which costs 400 gems. But the odds are....

A lot depends on how much stuff you've already gotten, since you only get gems for non-consumables if the item is a duplicate for you.

I bought crates several times for this very reason. Some with a lot of stuff already unlocked and some with hardly any. With those I have a lot of stuff pre-unlocked (more gems) it takes me around 11,000 crowns to 16,500 crowns (2-3 purchases of 15 crates). And one with far less unlocked, 3-5 installments of 15 crates (16,500 to 27,500).

For reference:

5,500 crowns is $40 USD
14,000 is $99 USD
21,000 is $149 USD

Other side of this is, I've put together over 400 gems on a single 15 crate pack multiple times. So, yeah, it does really depend on your luck.

The other half of the equation is what you already have. Dragonscale is still new so you're picking up a lot of new items. When Psijic Vault is re-released shortly if you already have most of that season you're going to have a better gem return from receiving duplicates.

And you can always squeeze a few extra crates if you trade gold for them.

as more items you get into your trash can collection

more gems returned for duplicates.

400 gems ~ 60 crates (depends on your luck, zos random machine,

average midyear weather on saturn in next millenium etc etc )

I'm sitting on 650+ atm and thats from buying 1 crate per new season since they started ( give or take a couple crates just bought because )

Honestly, I think the odds keep getting worse with the newer crates imo and that they don't come close to what it was before with how many gems you got. You could buy the 15 crates before and get enough gems to buy a mount everytime but since the lizard crates not really.

I mean I get some wild luck on just one crate or the 4 crate pack but it just seems that it is worse odds to me.

You're looking at 200$ approx if you buy crates for a season you havent unlocked much on to get 400 gems

Generally its once you unlocked/recieved most of the season's items, that's when you get lots of repeats which meand lots of gems

Of course you can get lucky and get a sweetroll, or get many repeated legendaries/epics

But 200$ average is what you're looking at

Took me 6 to get 40 - BUT, it all depends on how many of that type of crate you have bought in the past. This was on new crates brought out and I wanted the white Loon, so I did not have any of the items from that specific crate yet. I did not have anything that would duplicate and automatically change into gems.

The earlier crates had more things that were reused from the crown store. So, if you bought the pirate pack (for example) those would already be collected when they popped up in the crates. More recent crates have had far fewer reused items, meaning the initial buy in is steeper.

RNG, but i'd say it's 45-50 crates. People saying $200 are exaggerating. I've bought 21k crowns several times and always get 600-750 gems.

I got 599 gems never buying a crate, never getting a Twitch drop, and getting very few crates from leveling characters.

So if anybody's counted past crate freebies, that's a kind of data point.

Anything you trade back will net you 1/3 of the Store price in gems.

Whatever it is that you want, you don't want it THAT much. If you do, then by all means, spend up, spend up big.
