Did Argonians once control Voriplasms?

I noticed that a Voriplasm I encountered in the Xanmeer, during the main quest of Murkmire, was built into trap of the structure.
When the player grabs the crystal; We see the plasm drain from the walls, travel through the floor and fill a statue before bursting the structure from within.
According to the lore; the Argonians bound an incredibly large specimen of Voriplasm known as 'Wuju-Ka' to the caverns. Could the Argonians have bound Voriplasms to Xanmeers that then functioned as an organic intelligence that assisted its masters in return for nutrients?
Now that the Argonians no longer live in these Xanmeers has the Voriplasm been left to its own devices since then or do they still operate somewhat under the old masters orders?

As a side note; I can see Voriplasm spawnings as the Black Marsh Chapter equivalent of Dark Anchors.

Abyssal Voriplasm Geysir. Everyone is standing in a circle around a hole. Goo explodes from hole, raining down on everyone. Beautiful. >.<
This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.
