Is Fortified Nirn worth it's rarity?

It's there just to make you sad after you read Nirncrux when looting a node, but then realise it's not Potent.

It's a horrible trait that is basically just an awkward copy of reinforced. I'd say it needs a rework on armor to be a bit more unique. Lazy design.

It’s only value is for research so you can craft 9-trait sets. The nirnhoned armor trait has no real use, and hasn’t for a long time.

Well, essentially there are two meta armor traits in this game. In PVE, people want damage so they wear divines. In PVP, people want to NOT get one-shot (defense), so they wear impen.

If you want to see Fortified Nirn pull its weight compared to the cost of acquisition, its going to need to be better at one or both of those things. Alternatively, it could provide something that perhaps benefits both like ulti gain.

Make it a flat reduction to ability cost and maybe it would be worth something.

If it would work like the protective jewellery trait mb it could be used in pvp, bc it would give a choice to drop 1 impen on armor and use a diff trait on jew obv to ppl who use protective. But yeah in its current state is pretty useless.

That would be kind of interesting. Like 1% cost reduction on all abilities per piece of armor. Would probably never get used in PvP, but I imagine PvE tanks would very much like the cheaper ultimates and mag/stam ability costs.

But obviously on light armor it is way more useful then reinforced. Problem is that is in PVP you need impen anyway and in PVE you need damage, so this bonus doesn't have content where it will be viable.

Nirnhoned armor pieces could increase all resistances - spell resistance, physical resistance, critical resistance.

There are too many other ways to get physical/spell resistance for Nirnhoned to have much value. The amount could be buffed, but then it's just contributing further to the over-abundance of those stats.

I think cost reduction should be saved for an Invigorating rework.

I've always felt like there should be something more special about it, given the greater difficulty in obtaining it for researching and crafting. I also think there's too little real reward for learning all 9 traits. So my suggestion would be a bit more radical: that there be no "nirnhoned" trait that appears by itself. Instead, a crafter with all 9 traits learned for an item can add nirnhoned, in addition to the 'primary' trait. So a tank might get sturdy/nirnhoned, dps would get divines/nirnhoned, pvpers would get impenetrable/nirnhoned, etc.

However, I also realize that's never going to happen. :D

As a more feasible alternative, maybe change nirnhoned to be damage focused on armor too, and have it provide physical/spell penetration instead of resistance. Then maybe change Reinforced to give a flat value like Nirnhoned does now, since the only reason I can see for Nirnhoned to exist in its current state is to give a Reinforced-style trait option for light armor wearers (since it's a value instead of a percentage boost).

They would need to look at how it was when it was overperforming, and look at what they’ve gutted it to, and find middle ground between the two. I’d love to see it become desirable for tanking.

Just going to throw some ideas at a wall here.
    • Percent damage received reflection
    • Damage received to ultimate conversion
    • Damage received to movement speed conversion for x seconds
    • Percent boost to healing received / Percent boost to shield strength (maybe combine the two?)
    • Survive fatal damage with 1% health every 10 minutes (with percent survived increased and minutes on cooldown reduced by 1 per trait)
    • Ignore the first CC effect every 1 minute (reduced by 5 seconds per trait)
    • Increase CC immunity duration after breakfree and reduce dodge roll fatigue duration after dodge roll
    • Passive melee damage aura
    • Percent of resources restored from potions used as AoE restoration for self and 3 closest allies
    • Convert fatal damage received to magicka damage
    • Percent of health regeneration to stamina/magicka regeneration when health is full
    • Weapon poisons restore x stamina per proc

As for what it does now, it should just be rolled into Reinforced, with whichever effect that's stronger being the one applied.

My buddy was telling me it used to be pretty strong, which makes sense for the grind to learn it all, but they nerfed it through the ground. The best I could find was that it used to increase you resistances by a flat percentage (18%) for example. Saw this on Deltia's outdated website (exactly what I was looking for). I think reverting it to how it used to be would just make the tank/heavy armor meta worse, while giving it any type of damage buff would just make tanks hit harder. Just make it where it increases our gold gain by 8% lol

Would be nice if it did something useful for PvP and PvE. For example a certain % less player damage taken and a certain % magicka & stamina regen.

Fortified Nirncrux --- have it add a small % to all --- resources, recovery, and resistances (not inclusive of crit), starting at 0.5 (or less) for white and capping at 2% on legendary.. So figure 7 pieces, you'd get 14% (16% for sword and board) max resource, recovery, resistances, at cost of flat damage or mitigation increases. It'd reflect well what the weapon variant does (boosting damage) and actually be fortifying you, so the name is appropriate.

That would be ridiculously OP rendering every other armor trait completely useless. Not saying there isnt some merit to the idea, but I think the numbers would need some serious adjustment.

The other anomaly with this trait is of course that very few things actually come in nirn. So unless making crafted gear, this thread still boils down to the cost of transmute stones, not the cost of acquiring nirncrux.

a combination of armor, spell resistance and crit resistance. Like a triune trait.

To make it interesting I'd give it some form of diminishing return: for each piece of armor used with that trait, the effect is reduced a 10~15%. So it doesn't become BiS

I don't see why it shouldn't come close to competing with Divines for BIS tbh. Giving us more options makes things more interesting.

Is more for PvP, but if you want, throw some extra wpn/spell dmg too

Oh, whichever benefits it has, my point was that it doesn't need diminishing returns. It can have competitive benefits to whichever trait is BIS.

I've got over 100 and no use for them.

I feel like it's dropped, and significantly so from what I remember, as they're not hard to find for 500g each or less in the guild vendors. I had no troubles shopping around and buying about a hundred for much lower to help my master crafter train all of my alts.

Those incredibly low prices are a testament to how unpopular the trait is.

Simply needs to reduce cost in a semi significant way or ultimates in some way. But as is why the heck would anyone use it. Alot of the traits are like this but they are not rare so Fortified should be buffed to be somewhere in the meta for something. Those are my 2 ideas but something should be done. But also not really a pritorty
