Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

Anyone else concerned we will never get the full map?

With Elsweyr being such a small looking zone for a chapter it makes me wonder if we will ever see the full map of Tamriel before the game servers shut down. The size of Elsweyr in comparison to the map isn’t even the full province. They did the same with Morrowind which is still missing some landmass. Do you think these areas will ever be revisited in another chapter?

I'm sure they'll add the rest of Elsweyr eventually. Depending on how well this chapter is received it could be sooner, or later, though.

I do hope that eventually all of Tamriel will be in ESO, but we'll just have to keep supporting and playing the game to help that happen.

Personally I'd rather have some of Tamriel unexplored before the game servers shut down. Its a personal dream of mine to be able to start off in one zone, run off in one direction, and make a complete circuit around Cyrodiil before reaching the starting point again. Obviously this wouldn't include every single province, since Summerset is its own 2 islands, but it would still be pretty fun to have a circle around Cyrodiil before the game draws to a close. However, this shouldn't be the priority for anyone working at ZOS. I'd rather have them take their time and flesh out each province with multiple zones before filling out the map. Look at what happened to Summerset, we lost 2 major cities, the island was shrunk in the middle and mountains blocked off a sizeable portion of the province. With Anequina, they don't have to worry about the cities of Torval, Corinthe, Senchal and Alabaster. Those cities can have their own time to shine when zone(s) featuring the Tenmar Forest/Pelletine is released. I would hate for lore to be retconned so that the map can be prematurely finished. I want to see Winterhold as an actual city, and that wouldn't happen if the rest of Skyrim was released as a chapter next year. They don't have enough time or resources to fill out an entire province every year.
So the Dark Elves have weird alien architecture, where people live in mushroom towers and the shell of a giant crab, but the High Elves, the pinnacle of technology, the most magically advanced race in Tamriel, are still stuck in slightly pretty, fairly tall stone buildings? Not even a hint of a glass city? Are stainless glass windows really enough to claim that a city is made of glass?

I'd definitely like them to eventually fill in the entire map, and I think if the game goes on long enough it would be possible. But I'd prefer them to take their time and make each map as big as it needs to be for the content than to rush through making huge, empty zones just to try and fill in the edges faster.

I think some bits could be difficult to work into a story, like the Isle of Balfiera (unless they make the Direnni Tower a dungeon or trial) and that patch of Morrowind between Eastmarch and the Rift and the sea which is a bit small even for a DLC map. But I'm sure they could do it eventually.

The other thing to bear in mind is we might end up going to other places before the whole of Tamriel gets filled in. We know of several other continents/islands around Tamriel (like Atmora, Akavir and the remains of Yokuda. And then of course there's places outside of Nirn like the various daedric planes and odd pocket dimensions like Artaeum and Clockwork City. So there could be a lot of new places added which aren't even on the map yet.

But since most updates (excluding the dungeon DLC and some free updates) do add new locations I think the only real barrier to eventually filling in the whole map is ZOS having enough time to do it. If ESO ends up like Ultima Online, which is over 20 years old now, we could easily see the whole map completed and then some.

    This.

I'm not concerned about getting the full map... not because I'm afraid ESO won't last that long, but just because I don't care if we get it or not. More content is more, regardless of whether 100% map is filled. /shrug

My first interest is quality of the Zone vs seeing larger sections of the map. Good story, nice zone and nice content beyond that like well designed trial, etc.

Theres endless possibilities for content. More oblivion planes could be added like coldharbor.

I would hope there is no thinking about shutting down the servers any time soon. Hell, I'd be jumping for joy if they announced some form of cross platform play or the ability to transfer platform.

I'm actually dying here. My mates all play PC but i've spent too much time and money on crowns and the like to just give up and start again. I'd rather quit playing altogether. Its a privilege i'd happily pay extra for as a one time purchase. Proper depressing situation until ZoS decide to chuck those of us in my situation a bone and allow a transfer of sorts.

I flatly refuse to accept its not possible. WOW can do it therefore ZOS can do it. Unless they're saying they're not smart enough to figure out how to do it? ;)

What I find interesting is they seem to be suggesting WoW has solved cross platform issues even though WoW is not cross platform iirc, then questions the intelligence of others.

Really seems misplaced, completely. Maybe I have missed something.

I hope we will have moved on to ESO 2 before there is time to complete the map of Tamriel. 2E 583 and the Three Banners War is starting to feel more than a little stale.

He's threatening to rage-quit over there not being server transfers like Warcraft uses, even thought the proprietary megaserver architecture that ZOS uses is not the same as the Hewlett Packard BladeSystem architecture that Blizzard uses so there's no lateral comparison between the two.

No, I doubt Zenimax views TESO and TES to even be the same thing.

They will keep TESO and ZOS running aslong as there is money to be made, anyone who might jump over to TES6 could eventually trickle back anyways.

Servers aren't going anywhere unless the Zenimax board suddenly wake up one day with an axe to grind against TESO.

I really doubt that they will ever finish the map. Not that I think ESO is shutting down anytime soon, but they are going to leave areas unexplored. Case in point is Murkmire. The extent of swamp on the SE quadrant of the map is absolutely huge, like 20% of the continent. But between Shadowfen and Murkmire can you really imagine them doing another swamp zone anytime soon? It's hard to imagine.

I think they'll do zones of Daedric realms before we get another swamp zone.

Good news is that there is plenty of map to explore. I bet we head to Hammerfall in 2020 (unless that's the zone for ES6).

If they continue the current 2 zones per year (1 chapter & 1 DLC) it will take 6 more years just to fill how what they had named during beta.

On the other hand we've got several areas which are not named on that map - Summerset (main island), Gold Coast, Anvil, Shadowfen. I don't think that map is any indication of their plans anymore.

I agree. this map also had Auridon broken up into 3 distinct (different name) sections at the time. It was just an example to show how long it would take.
