How To Increase The Furniture Limit Without Causing Performance Issues

How can we increase the Furniture Cap of 700 for the large houses without causing performance issues that seem to once you place more than 700 furnishings? It's quite a dilemma!

The solution is actually quite simple:
It is already possible to place more than 700 items currently on the live server: You got your 700 traditionals furniturs and 110 collectible furnishings.
So why not combine these 2 pools and allow for a total of 810 items (and 10 Special Furnishings and 10 Special Collectibles). These 110 collectibles (Undaunted Busts and Trophies) are essentially nothing but ordinary furnishings just counting towards a different budget. I don't see why there should be a difference performance-wise between placing a pot and placing an Undaunted bust. This would give us a lot more flexibility and options decorating our houses.

There hasn't been any tehnical response from the devs, why the cap can't be increased or what are the technical problems to do so. I still do not understand why placing 2 apples is the same as placing two huge blooming trees, because they count the same. Why can't I place more special collectibles? I got the jester festival joke mount but can't place it in my main house because I already have to many special collectibles, but there is no filter to see which are those, I need to go around the house and remove items that might be in that category, and check the counters. In this case there are just some arbitrary caps, nothing related to performance. Also, if you have an instanced house, like tower, inside, courtyard, how do the items from outside influence what you have in the inside instance?

Based off of player testing, collision calculations seem to be the largest culprit contributing to why the limits are kept so low. It's easy to verify this by placing a large number of items with collision in a tight area and watching your performance drop.

That said, a better solution would actually be doing the opposite of what's suggested by the OP, and break furnishings into even more categories. Specifically, Traditional Furnishings which have no collision need to be separated into a new category, as they don't have as great of an impact on performance. Examples of non-collision items include various small plants, rugs, tapestries, etc. This would allow ZOS to lower the Traditional Furnishing limit, but simultaneously increase the new collision-less category by a greater amount, giving a much needed boost to the current limits without significant performance loss.

When looking at the current furnishing categories from a performance standpoint, it makes clear sense why they are broken into their various categories.
    • Traditional Furnishings - Any furnishings not falling in another category.
      • By creating a new "sub"-category for no-collision items, the overall furnishing limits could be greatly increased.
    • Special Furnishings - Larger furnishings composed of elaborate particle effects, so limited due to their high performance cost (ex Butterfly Flock and Mists of Hag Fen).
    • Collectible Furnishings - Count as part of your Collections, not as individual inventory items, therefore unable to combine with Traditional Furnishings category.
    • Special Collectibles - Mounts, Pets and Followers. Animated so higher performance cost. As they are part of your Collections, they are more akin to Collectible Furnishings than any other category.

Everything you said make senses, except for the reasoing why Traditional Furnishings and Collectible Furnishings cannot have a common budget. Collectible Furnishings also require collision checks. The only difference is how they are stored when not place, and that shouldn't really be limiting factor here.

And even if it were, the ratio of 700 to 110 is completely out of proportion given the amount of Traditional Furnishings available and the amount of Collectible Furnishings available. Most of us would rather place somewhere between 50 and 100 more literally-anything-else than those heads from the undaunted. In fact, given that some Traditional Furnishings don't require collision checks while all of the Collectible Furnishings do, odds are that removing Collectible Furnishings and adding the those 110 slots to Traditional Furninshings will actually improve performance.
