If crates were banned.

So Crown Crates could be made illegal but would this be the end of them; maybe not.

There is nothing to stop ZOS from adding them ingame for in game currencies.

I think they could also get round the legalities of the gambling laws if they offered them as part of a package (so many per month when you pay for ESO plus).

If they do both of the above the crates gained from ESO plus are actually a bonus perk of something you can buy ingame and therefore not classed as gambling but just a boosted game perk.

This would possibably generate extra interest in ESO+ and therefore extra income.

Just a thought but I cannot see any gaming company completely getting rid of something they have invested so much in but instead a different way of generating revenue from them.

This IMO is also a much more moral way of using them.
Live a little love a lot send all your gold to this Imperials pot.

The crates are designed to be sold for money. They could add them to the game for in game currencies, but they don't benefit from that. Putting them in the game might seem great from a player point of view, but spinning that wheel over and over again and getting trash (even if it only cost in game currency) would get old fast. RNG has never been overly popular as a reward method.

Crown Crates aren't really gambling. If you don't get what you want, usually you can just extract the items you don't want in exchange for gems and get what you want that way with the exception of Radiant Apex Mounts.

No, they are 100% Gambling. 100%.

If they were banned, then they'd sell costumes for $20 a piece- wait, they already do that.

We can speculate about any aspect of this all you want but beyond an exercise in futility the industry will alter them to fit any possibly law if it is ever passed. It really is that simple, and pretty obvious.

Getting rid of crates would eliminate the development budget for them, meaning that any new items within would not get created and would not find their way into the regular crown store rotation or into regular game play.

I know right. We can only add new items because of Crown Crates, we're sorry but you cannot earn these items in-game because it'll be impossible to do.

I'm fine with crown crates. I don't open them but at the same time I'm glad they found a way to fund development without going pay to win.

Pay to cosmetic or pay to skip is completely fine in my opinion. Gambling? As long as I don't have to.

But then again its annoying when I want something but its only on crown crates or crystals that come from crown crates. I just wanna buy whatever the heck I want directly.

Is buying vCR+3 carry run with all loot from there for 150 euro still skipping or already pay to win ?

Actually I am not taking jabs at developers but customers. Missing the point also says quite a bit about people who miss it.

I don't exactly care since thats not something done by zenimax. Players sell runs.

The question wasn't do You care or not. Also players sell many other things then runs but it is not core of the question. Is buying for real money stuff that is normally beyond reach for most of the players skipping or pay to win ?

No, they are 100% Gambling. 100%.

Dungeon runs are also gambling - you spend your time ("time is money, friend") to open the loot box hit the end boss and hope that the loot you want pops out.

    ;)

...but yeah, they'd just switch to putting the stuff in the crown store straight. Probably have a few less variants (like not every type of mount in fire/ice/dead/scales/rainbows/etc)

If we could turn anything we got from a crate into gems I would much rather do that. I have so many mounts, pets and other crap I didn’t want and I am stuck with them. I would prefer the ability to turn everything I don’t want into gems so I could maybe get something I actually want!

I just really want to get rid of the gaur I got from this seasons crates (ironically I only opened four, mostly trash except a chain nose ring and the skin that I got with extra gems beforehand), and the physic bear from the summerset crates- I completely forgot the name of them, but the bear is just something I’ll never use cause of the weird way it runs and tosses the character around. OH, and a spider pet. No. Thanks.

It doesn't allow for anything. Unless you plan on participating towards making crates illegal via your Government, then this thread is useless and does nothing. If you don't like crates, then don't buy them.

This is so stupid sorry for the word, but crates dosent benifits at all, they are just cosmetics. It wont effect the game at all.
And it shouldn't be banned. i would vote for the banning if it effects anything in the game aspects wich leads to benifits over another player like in a pay to win situation. But thats not gonna hapen i hope :D So i am personaly not effected by crowncrates becasue it wont effects the game at all. Maybe the riding stuffs should be also account wide unlocked thing as well, but who cares honestly. Lacking of self controls if you are spending money on cosmetics endlesly and not having control over your self or your valets it is your problem, not ZeniMaxOnlines porblem. It is not a gambeling honestly, becasue you wont win a casino related prices liek money or a car or a luxury trawel with or anything benifical wich effects both real life and in game values wich gives benifits over other players, who dosent spend money on crates. There is no court that would punish the company for thsi nonsense, and BTW you agreed their terms so the company is basicly washing their hands, becasue it is our the consumers responsibilites to how we play and how we spend our money after all.

If all items from crates would've been sold not in crates, but in store for crowns, I doubt that my pet collection would've been as strong as it is today. Being able to buy items for gems when you don't really have any money for crates themselves or don't want their apex, is very good. I haven't bought a single crate from previous season because I was afraid to get an ugly apex and gems have worked just fine.

The whole gambling argument is based entirely upon the fact that you do not know the drop rates.

All the gaming industry would need to do is show the drop rates and no one would be able to lift a finger, cause that's not gambling anymore. They don't do it cause it's a waste of time since crates aren't in danger of being made illegal anywhere.
