Maintenance for the week of March 30:
• [COMPLETE] ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – April 1, 1:00PM EDT (17:00 UTC) - 5:00PM EDT (21:00 UTC)

Let's brainstorm together! How would you overhaul the CP system?

That's great! Was he a main tank or support tank? I can bet he was a main tank! You guys are right! We don't need CP! We can tank or DD in any armor! This game is ridiculusly easy! Let's remove CP!

Personaly I don't GF about this honestly, I will be able to complete any content with CP or without CP. I also don't care if this game survives or not as my sub expires in two weeks and I'm not going to extend it, neither purcharse crowns or Elsweyr for many other reasons. Just remember that when not present here majority will come on this forum after nerf rolls out - I will be happy to point out this and other threads and call some of you to the board! ;D

I'm sorry to see you go but please keep in mind ESO is one of the best MMORPGs on the market right now. WIth One Tamriel we can play with anyone, anywhere, at any time (aside of high end content). It has a lot of voice acting, unique combat system, unique trading system, and very good graphics compared to other titles. I wish you'd reconsider your decision but I hope you find happiness wherever you go.

ESO hasn't increased base attribute points since launch. Most MMOs do periodically. I suggest making CP points not entirely linear. Perhaps at every 100 CP points allowing players to exchange those for a special attribute, skill point, or some such. Breadth versus depth only. This would allow a greater degree of character customization while avoiding simply barreling down some OP pathway.

ESO has increased level cap including attribute points several times in the past.

Now back to the discussion, CP is likely to change drastically and the OP is trying to come up with ideas because if we leave it up to Zos, we know what will likely happen.

My concern is vertical progression, what would you suggest to keep that?

If they keep listening too the five people on forums whining about how "easy" the game is when spending CP points then yeah they will cripple the game.

My suggestion is to ignore these people and this thread be locked. The only things I read about it from developers is that they find that people are not excited when earning their 1100 CP point and want to make it more rewarding.

No kidding. Destroy your casual base, kill your game. Listen to the forums, cater to their whims, build an echo chamber of high-end players and take only their feedback and you soon end up without players. And, as a result, end up shutting down.

To be honest, you can't deny power creep is a thing. The game is easier. Just look at vMA scores. It's way easier than it was 2 years ago. Look at DPS scores too

Sure 1% pf the game is mega hard. Skin runs etc but the majority of the game is crazy easy, overland questing mobs melt with just a few hundred CP

I hear you, the game shouldn't be balanced around pro players but power creep is obvious and very real.

Explanation of the game is the bigger stopped for new casuals. The amount of pugs i see with mismatched gear they found or hybrid setups, they the people that get frustrated as without coming here or a guild to help then they suffer. It's not the difficulty Its understanding the basics. Luckily its a MMORPG so people help

I've brought numerous people to this game and some of them had tried it before feeling as though it was more of a single player experience and that it didn't feel like an MMORPG. It was only when I showed them the many things in the game and how it actually is social that they started to like it.

My point is, the game needs a better new player experience and a more transparent alternate advancement system that isn't quite as steep.

Even showing people that you can turn on nameplates makes a large difference - it gives them the feeling that they are in an MMORPG. I know it sounds weird but nameplates have made quite a few people I've met feel like they weren't playing a single player game anymore.

I would make a Champion Skill line. You would pay with you extra CP (after the cap) to unlock abilities. Some would be non-combat related, and others would be fun abilities with synergies and new mechanics. (Like one ability synergy applies a specific debuff that empower an other champion ability).

Obviously everyone will be choosing non-combat perks on their main/crafter and combat on every other character.

    - Make sure combat passives do not force the players to choose a certain playstyle, but rather complement their choice whatever it may be. For example, if you introduce a passive that increases penetration, let it be both physical and spell penetration so that the player can mix the skills and effects they may want to use as well as before unlocking this passive.

Yeah, let the players cherry pick most powerfull stamina and magicka morphs at once. We can also delete all other classes and leave only Magstamblade xD
    ToRelax wrote: »
    - Make players choose between different types of combat related passives, rather then dividing them into a sustain, damage and healing constellation into which everyone can invest the same amount of CP.

Again, let players become invicible by spending all CPs in the defense tree or allow them to one shot eachother by spending all CPs into damage dealing tree. Let's skip skill based part of the game such as rotation and burst

    ToRelax wrote: »
There's more I would change, but I feel without these points any effort is somewhat wasted. With combat and non combat related passives competing directly, no one will ever take non combat stuff on a character they optimize for combat activities. And without the other points, individual specialization, which I think the CP system is supposed to create, just isn't a reality.

Current CP system is making your character stronger all rounded. It might need some tweaks, but overall it's balanced. It's funny how people don't realise that what makes your character specialised or powerefull is not CP but 3 other things:
    1. Gear / Enchants
    2. Abilities /Rotation / Weaving
    3. Skillpoint Passives

CPs are just a cherry on the top. I would change the UI to something more intuitive, in the small window, with more information how the changes affect our character and then I would add some more interesting CP passives.
    divinity-original-sin-abilities.jpg

Yeah thats something i totally would support, i always liked the idea to have specializations in a game for progress, so you had the ability to give your character a unique feeling to it. I personally think that they should either remove the cp system completly and give attribute points for every X CP or something along these lines or make the CP a more crafting/exploring related additonal system that benefits you outside of the combat i. e Crafting/Trading/Farming something like that.

I would like to know who came up with the notion that people play the game to grind? I damn sure didn't. I do it out of necessity. Not because I like it. The best thing about this game that has kept me is that I don't have to keep constantly grinding gear because the gear level is capped. I hated that in other MMOs. Get rid of that and I'm done. And I'm pretty sure I'm not alone. People don't play the game for grinding. They play because the game is fun.

Y'all really need to stop peddling that snake oil about the game will die without progression. It's a bs notion because most people hate grinding and only do it because of forced necessity.

The only problem with all that is that what is "grind" to some is "playing the game" for others.

The irony is that those who don't want to "grind" over something like skyshards seem more than happy to "grind" 50 levels at a dolmen. As someone who loves replaying the content with different characters, I couldn't begin to think of camping a dolmen for hours on end, let alone days.

True, this game has so much awesome and huge content that it simple doesn't need to use this kind of cheap moves to cover some shallow gameplay like some other multiplayer games. It doesn't mean that our characters shouldn't be more powerfull with a time, but grind should be avoided wherever it's possible.

I would prefer a less grinding method, than this "champion" system. I'm not even 400 yet, and i can do any base game vet. dungeon as tank over 90% of the time. Sometimes i get 1 or 2 teammates who are either too stupid, and die often, or just can't deal enough damage.

Still since 400CP is enough for any base game vet. dungeon i could suggest a few things to make harder for end-gamers while also giving a huge reward.

CP reduced to 300. Those who are already above that would receive the extra CP on the prestige system.
Prestige system: On 300 cp you could go into "prestige mode". Doing so will 0 your CP, and let you choose a new class. You can switch between your classes at any time (while not in combat). But you can't mix the skills. You can do this again until you unlock every class.

In order to make it easier the now 2 THOUSAND CP. You could reset quests, that are already completed. "relive" the stories you loved most. Doing so will not give you skillpoint, but other rewards are provided.

Also in order to be able to wear the gears upon prestige. The maximum gear would be on lvl50. Any gear between 0, and 160 CP would be instantly scaled up to 160CP stat.

On a more pratical note 0-160 is hardly a grind considering how fast one can achieve it.

I do not give 3 turds about prestige and most with high CP likely feel the same. Removing earned progress in an MMO is almost always the worst thing to do.

Every one of your prestige suggestions mean less than nothing to me and honestly would do more to drive me to another game than stay here. So already they are showing to be a negative.

I know, but I was refering to a discussion in this thread which sugested to increase gear lvl cap even further. My point is that 0-160CP is not "playing", but "grinding" to the point, where you can start to collect sets and enjoy building your character without false data affecting your character such as low lvl buffs or gear scalling you down.

It wouldn't "remove". If you got 700 CP, then upon first prestige you would start on 300 instant, and you could prestige right away. Upon next prestige you would start on 100 to 300CP right away (it would scale up, because eraning new cp from 699 is harder than from 0 to 1). It is a sort of investment. If you aren't interested in having more class on same character, then you simply don't prestige, and if you do, then you know, that you gona make this sacrifice.

Instead of having super high bonuses you would become flexible. If you wana be a better healer, then you could switch into Templar instead of grinding up a new character. Or if devs. ****k up a class, and necro becomes super strong, then again no need to gring up a new character, but instead you just prestige for it, and say bring it on.

DUDE I am over CP 1000. Scaling me back and turning 510 CP into prestige (810 being current game max for use) is absolutly removing my earned progression growth.

No amount of double talk will change that. Prestige is not growth and it is not progression.

What about "I do not give 3 turds about prestige" was not understood?

AND who are you to decide what sacrifices others make? Wow, the self inflated importance, as I said, self serving.

Tell that to Payday 2, Call of Duty series, and a probably some other games. 810 is the max. The rest is just an "I got all the time in the world" text. How many player got that kind of CP? 0,1%?

Also i rather keep the content challenging, than grinding. And i LOVE flexibility, and lot of other people love flexibility too. You could have 3 classes to choose from. Even during the dungeon you could switch into another class, if it works better for your situation, or just wana roleplay it. No need to grind a new character to try something new. Gathering every achievement, and redoing every quest.

Just stop. Stop trying to take away my earned CP. Any solution that involves removing what others have already earned is self serving and in most cases just raw envy.

It wouldn't "remove". If you got 700 CP, then upon first prestige you would start on 300 instant, and you could prestige right away. Upon next prestige you would start on 100CP right away. It is a sort of investment. If you aren't interested in having more class on same character, then you simply don't prestige, and if you do, then you know, that you gona make this sacrifice.

You just used 2 FPS games with little to no RPG content to compare to an MMORPG. At this point you are not to be taken seriously. People do not play MMORPGs for the same gaming expereinces to be found on FPS.

FPS by definition will have little to no impactful progression becuase they have to keep all the combant content near perfectly balanced for gameplay. This is to not allow a vet to overwelm a newbie because they have 5 years of character growth. MMORPG life blood is progression. It is one of the core reasons most play an RPG. If you can not see that difference everything else is pointless in your posts on this subject.

Also I am convinced you really do not read posts to respond to them in a good faith debate. I stated 810 was max use but you still pointed it out as if my post showed I did not know that. This tells me you just spew your desired opinion as opposed to craft a proper response to what was actually written.

The problem is that we earned tons of CP, but not bigger gear. Making content easy on very high CP.

Removing/reducing CP without adding something is a really bad idea.

    1. Prestige mode, that gives something magnificent for reseting, or reducing CP. While at the same time the max CP gets reduced.

    2. Add more gear levels. New gear would scale up to 800CP. Those who got 160CP gear would have those items scaled up to the max. CP they can wear. Dungeons would get a new difficulty for 400CP+. The only problem is that it would make the game a HUGE grinding.

    3. New character+. This method is quite lazy, but hey. Mass Effect, and Borderlands series did it. It would work in combination of the 2. option. But instead of 800CP the max. would be 1000. Grind FOREVER

Most games have more than one part. Also have you ever played Payday2? Those skillpoints matter. A LOT. Even for an experienced player there is a huge difference.

On Call of Duty series it also matters a little, because weapon unlocking. Though it's not that much impact.

Also there is skill in this game too. More than in most MMO actually. My suggestion is giving challenge over grinding. Not all of us have the patience or the time to grind that much.

If it were up to you, then we wouldn't have CP system. Just INFINITE levels with infinitely increasing attributes, and skillpoints. So the one who grinded most will be the king. Or maybe not infinite just some huge number. Like 20000. Would take around 40000 hours to get it. Then they add the new 5000% xp boost scroll to crown store, and you know what comes next. Upon the change you would get all your CP experience in an instant, and all your 160CP gear would scale up to your new level.

All forced analogies. FPS and RPG at their very core attract players for very different gaming experiencies. I am not saying each can't learn from the other.
I am saying RPGs need progression of growth at their core unlike an FPS and prestige is not a progressuon most RPG players will ever care care about.
However FPS players often do value prestige which in turns causes both genres to have even fewer social similarities.

ESO does not need nor should have any kind of FPS prestige system.

    Just to repeat myself.

The main problem is that anything which ignores the current player status achieved will be a power regression; any rescaling of CP in overland by increase is player power regression -- in the reverse direction is an illusion that only moves the goal posts. What is needed is expansion/extension of the core design. The combat/performance relative boosts and QoL improvements, and ultimately balance imposed on investment.

I like what they [CP stars] offer and believe they should remain as such -- in addition though:
    • there should be some QoL stars too, that effect mercantile, research time reduction, mount training price/time/start level, carry weight, harvest volume, gold matt harvest/refine chance, gear level drop quality chance, gold drop chance, etc, movement speed, jump distance ( )
    • existing passive CP stars (the unlockables for x amount spent) should be opened up for investment to add more points into (with lower cap than normal stars)
    • CP investment needs a balance system that has negative effects per enhancement so that over investing in one area make you weaker in another

keep in mind that the biggest issue with CP is how it discourages new players who comes to TESO.

therefor i would simply cap it to 360 and reduce the amount you have to spent in each tree to get the bonus we already have and turn all others into crowns.

more lvl would also give crowns, let's say 5crowns per lvl so that playing more would bring more goodies to players (which is more than nothing) and new ppl wont be afraid to come since they have less grind to access to the "end game" content.
